Mark 14

Death Plot and Anointing

11NowG1161 2the PassoverG3957 and Festival of UnleavenedG106 BreadG106 were twoG1417 daysG2250 awayG3326; and the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the scribesG1122 3were seekingG2212 howG4459 to arrestG2902 Him covertlyG1388 and killG615 Him; 2for they were sayingG3004, “Not duringG1722 the festivalG1859, otherwiseG3379 there will be a riotG2351 of the peopleG2992.”

34While He was in 5BethanyG963 at the homeG3614 of SimonG4613 6the LeperG3015, He was recliningG2621 at the table, and a womanG1135 cameG2064 with an alabasterG211 vialG211 of veryG4185 7expensiveG4185 perfumeG3464 of pureG4101 8nardG3487. She brokeG4937 the vialG211 and pouredG2708 the perfume overG2708 His headG2776. 4But there were someG5100 indignantlyG23 remarking to oneG1438 anotherG1438, “WhyG1519G5101 has thisG3778 perfumeG3464 beenG1096 wastedG684? 5For thisG3778 perfumeG3464 couldG1410 have been soldG4097 for overG1883 threeG5145 hundredG5145 9denariiG1220, and the money givenG1325 to the poorG4434.” And they were scoldingG1690 her. 6But JesusG2424 saidG3004, “LeaveG863 her aloneG863! WhyG5101 are you botheringG2873G3930 her? She has doneG2038 a goodG2570 deedG2041 for Me. 7For you alwaysG3842 haveG2192 10the poorG4434 with you, and wheneverG3752 you wantG2309, you canG1410 doG4160 goodG2095 to them; but you do not alwaysG3842 haveG2192 Me. 8She has doneG4160 whatG3739 she couldG2192; 11she has anointedG3462 My bodyG4983 beforehandG4301 for the burialG1780. 9TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you, 12whereverG3699G1437 the gospelG2098 is preachedG2784 in the entireG3650 worldG2889, whatG3588 thisG3778 womanG3778 has doneG4160 will alsoG2532 be toldG2980 in memoryG3422 of her.”

1013ThenG2532 JudasG2455 IscariotG2469, 14whoG3588 was oneG1520 of the twelveG1427, wentG565 offG565 to the chiefG749 priestsG749 inG2443 orderG2443 toG2443 15betrayG3860 Him to them. 11They were delightedG5463 when they heardG191 this, and promisedG1861 to giveG1325 him moneyG694. And he began seekingG2212 howG4459 to betrayG3860 Him at an opportuneG2122 timeG2122.

The Last Passover

1216On the firstG4413 dayG2250 of 1718UnleavenedG106 BreadG106, whenG3753 19the PassoverG3957 lamb was being 20sacrificedG2380, His disciplesG3101 saidG3004 to Him, “WhereG4226 do You wantG2309 us to goG565 and prepareG2090 for You to eatG2068 the PassoverG3957?” 13And He sentG649 twoG1417 of His disciplesG3101 and saidG3004 to them, “GoG5217 into the cityG4172, and a manG444 carryingG941 a pitcherG2765 of waterG5204 will meetG528 you; followG190 him; 14and whereverG3699G1437 he entersG1525, sayG3004 to the ownerG3617 ofG3617 theG3617 houseG3617, ‘The TeacherG1320 saysG3004, “WhereG4226 is My 21guestG2646 roomG2646 in whichG3699 I may eatG2068 the PassoverG3957 with My disciplesG3101?”’ 15And he himselfG846 will showG1166 you a largeG3173 upstairsG311 roomG311 furnishedG4766 and readyG2092; prepareG2090 for us thereG1563.” 16The disciplesG3101 leftG1831 and cameG2064 to the cityG4172, and foundG2147 everything justG2531 asG2531 He had toldG3004 them; and they preparedG2090 the PassoverG3957.

1722When it was eveningG3798 He cameG2064 with the twelveG1427. 18And as they were recliningG345 at the table and eatingG2068, JesusG2424 saidG3004, “TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you that oneG1520 of you will 23betrayG3860 Me--24one who is eatingG2068 with Me.” 19They beganG757 to be grievedG3076 and to sayG3004 to Him oneG1520 by oneG1520, “SurelyG3385 not I?” 20But He saidG3004 to them, “It is one of the twelveG1427, the one who dipsG1686 bread with Me in the bowlG5165. 21For the SonG5207 of ManG444 is goingG5217 awayG5217 justG2531 asG2531 it is writtenG1125 aboutG4012 Him; but woeG3759 to that manG444 25by whomG3739 the SonG5207 of ManG444 is betrayedG3860! It would have been goodG2570 26for that manG444 ifG1487 he had not been bornG1080.”

The Lord’s Supper

2227While they were eatingG2068, He tookG2983 some breadG740, and 28after a 29blessingG2127 He brokeG2806 it, and gaveG1325 it to them, and saidG3004, “TakeG2983 it; thisG3778 is My bodyG4983.” 23And when He had takenG2983 a cupG4221 and givenG2168 thanksG2168, He gaveG1325 it to them, and they allG3956 drankG4095 from it. 24And He saidG3004 to them, “ThisG3778 is My 30bloodG129 of the 31covenantG1242, whichG3588 is being pouredG1632 outG1632 for manyG4183. 25TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you, I will not drinkG4095 of the fruitG1079 of the vineG288 againG3765, untilG2193 that dayG2250 whenG3752 I drinkG4095 it, newG2537, in the kingdomG932 of GodG2316.”

2632And after singingG5214 aG5214 33hymnG5214, they wentG1831 outG1831 to 34the MountG3735 of OlivesG1636.

2735And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “You will allG3956 36fallG4624 awayG4624, becauseG3754 it is writtenG1125: ‘37I will strikeG3960 the shepherdG4166, and the sheepG4263 will be scatteredG1287.’ 28But afterG3326 I am raisedG1453, 38I will goG4254 aheadG4254 of you to GalileeG1056.” 29But PeterG4074 saidG5346 to Him, “EvenG2532 ifG1487 they allG3956 39fallG4624 awayG4624, yetG235 I will not!” 30And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, “TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you, that 4041thisG3778 veryG4594 nightG3571, beforeG4250 42a roosterG220 crowsG5455 twiceG1364, you yourselfG4771 will denyG533 Me threeG5151 timesG5151.” 31But 43Peter repeatedly saidG2980 insistentlyG1600, “Even ifG1437 I have to dieG4880 with You, I will not denyG533 You!” And they allG3956 were sayingG3004 the sameG5615 thingG5615 asG2532 wellG2532.

Jesus in Gethsemane

3244They cameG2064 to a placeG5564 namedG3686 45GethsemaneG1068; and He saidG3004 to His disciplesG3101, “SitG2523 hereG5602 untilG2193 I have prayedG4336.” 33And He tookG3880 with Him PeterG4074, 46JamesG2385, and JohnG2491, and beganG757 to be veryG1568 47distressedG1568 and troubledG85. 34And He saidG3004 to them, “48My soulG5590 is deeplyG4036 grievedG4036, toG2193 theG2193 pointG2193 of deathG2288; remainG3306 hereG5602 and 49keepG1127 watchG1127.” 35And He wentG4281 a littleG3398 beyondG4281 them, and fellG4098 to the groundG1093 and began prayingG4336 that ifG1487 it were possibleG1415, 50the hourG5610 might 51passG3928 Him by. 36And He was sayingG3004, “52AbbaG5! 53FatherG3962! AllG3956 thingsG3956 are possibleG1415 for You; removeG3911 thisG3778 cupG4221 from Me; 54yetG235 not whatG5101 I willG2309, but whatG5101 You will.” 37And He cameG2064 and foundG2147 them sleepingG2518, and saidG3004 to PeterG4074, “SimonG4613, are you asleepG2518? CouldG2480 you not 55keepG1127 watchG1127 for oneG1520 hourG5610? 385657KeepG1127 watchingG1127 and prayingG4336, soG2443 thatG2443 you will not comeG2064 into temptationG3986; the spiritG4151 is willingG4289, but the fleshG4561 is weakG772.” 39And againG3825 He wentG565 awayG565 and prayedG4336, sayingG3004 the sameG846 58wordsG3056. 40And againG3825 He cameG2064 and foundG2147 them sleepingG2518, for their eyesG3788 were heavyG2599; and they did not knowG3609 whatG5101 to sayG611 inG611 replyG611 to Him. 41And He cameG2064 the thirdG5154 timeG5154, and saidG3004 to them, “Are you stillG3062 sleepingG2518 and restingG373? That is enoughG568. 59The hourG5610 has comeG2064; beholdG2400, the SonG5207 of ManG444 is being 60betrayedG3860 into the handsG5495 of sinnersG268. 42GetG1453 upG1453, let’s goG71; beholdG2400, the one who is betrayingG3860 Me is nearG1448!”

Betrayal and Arrest

4361And immediatelyG2117, while He was stillG2089 speakingG2980, JudasG2455, oneG1520 of the twelveG1427, cameG3854 up, 62accompaniedG3326G846 by a crowdG3793 with swordsG3162 and clubsG3586 who were from the chiefG749 priestsG749, the scribesG1122, and the eldersG4245. 44NowG1161 he who was betrayingG3860 Him had givenG1325 them a signalG4953, sayingG3004, “WhomeverG3739G302 I kissG5368, He is the one; arrestG2902 Him and leadG520 Him awayG520 63underG806 guardG806.” 45And after comingG2064, Judas immediatelyG2117 wentG4334 to Him and saidG3004, “64RabbiG4461!” and kissedG2705 Him. 46And they laidG1911 handsG5495 onG1911 Him and arrestedG2902 Him. 47But oneG1520 of thoseG3588 who stoodG3936 by drewG4685 his swordG3162, and struckG3817 the slaveG1401 of the highG749 priestG749 and 65cutG851 offG851 his earG5621. 48And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “Have you comeG1831 outG1831 with swordsG3162 and clubsG3586 to arrestG4815 Me, as you would againstG1909 a manG3027 incitingG3027 aG3027 revoltG3027? 49EveryG2596 dayG2250 I was with you 66withinG1722 the templeG2413 grounds teachingG1321, and you did not arrestG2902 Me; but this has taken place soG2443 thatG2443 the ScripturesG1124 will be fulfilledG4137.” 50And 67His disciples allG3956 leftG863 Him and fledG5343.

51A youngG3495 manG3495 was followingG4870 Him, wearingG4016 nothing but a linenG4616 sheetG4616 overG1909 his nakedG1131 body; and they seizedG2902 him. 52But he 68pulledG2641 freeG2641 of the linenG4616 sheetG4616 and escapedG5343 nakedG1131.

Jesus before His Accusers

5369They ledG520 JesusG2424 awayG520 to the highG749 priestG749; and allG3956 the chiefG749 priestsG749, the eldersG4245, and the scribesG1122 gatheredG4905 togetherG4905. 54And PeterG4074 had followedG190 Him at a distanceG3113, 70rightG2193 into 71the courtyardG833 of the highG749 priestG749; and he was sittingG4775 with the 72officersG5257 and 73warmingG2328 himself at the 74fireG5457. 55NowG1161 the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the entireG3650 7576CouncilG4892 were tryingG2212 toG2212 obtainG2212 testimonyG3141 againstG2596 JesusG2424 to putG2289 Him toG2289 deathG2289, and they were not findingG2147 any. 56For manyG4183 peopleG4183 were givingG5576 falseG5576 testimonyG5576 againstG2596 Him, and so their testimoniesG3141 were not consistentG2470. 57And then someG5100 stoodG450 upG450 and began givingG5576 falseG5576 testimonyG5576 againstG2596 Him, sayingG3004, 58“We heardG191 Him sayG3004, ‘77I will destroyG2647 thisG3778 78templeG3485 that was madeG5499 byG5499 handsG5499, and in threeG5140 daysG2250 I will buildG3618 anotherG243, madeG886 withoutG886 handsG886.’” 59And not evenG3761 inG3779 thisG3779 respectG3779 was their testimonyG3141 consistentG2470. 60And then the highG749 priestG749 stoodG450 upG450 and came forwardG1519G3319 and questionedG1905 JesusG2424, sayingG3004, “Do You not offerG611 anyG3762 answerG611 for whatG5101 theseG3778 menG3778 are testifyingG2649 againstG2649 You?” 6179But He keptG4623 silentG4623 and did not offerG611 anyG3762 answerG611. 80AgainG3825 the highG749 priestG749 was questioningG1905 Him, and saidG3004 to Him, “Are You the 81ChristG5547, the SonG5207 of 82the BlessedG2128 One?” 62And JesusG2424 saidG3004, “I amG1510; and you shall seeG3708 83the SonG5207 of ManG444 sittingG2521 at the rightG1188 handG1188 of powerG1411, and 84comingG2064 with the cloudsG3507 of heavenG3772.” 6385TearingG1284 his clothesG5509, the highG749 priestG749 saidG3004, “WhatG5101 furtherG2089 needG5532 do we haveG2192 of witnessesG3144? 64You have heardG191 the 86blasphemyG988; howG5101 does it seemG5316 to you?” And they allG3956 condemnedG2632 Him as deservingG1777 of deathG2288. 65And someG5100 beganG757 to 87spitG1716 on Him, and 8889to blindfoldG4028G4383 Him, and to beatG2852 Him withG2852 their fistsG2852 and sayG3004 to Him, “90ProphesyG4395!” Then the officersG5257 tookG2983 custodyG2983 of Him 91and slappedG4475 Him in the face.

Peter’s Denials

6692And while PeterG4074 was belowG2736 in 93the courtyardG833, oneG1520 of the slaveG3814 womenG3814 of the highG749 priestG749 cameG2064, 67and seeingG3708 PeterG4074 94warmingG2328 himself, she lookedG1689 atG1689 him and saidG3004, “You were with JesusG2424 the 95NazareneG3479 asG2532 wellG2532.” 68But he deniedG720 it, sayingG3004, “I neitherG3777 knowG3609 norG3777 understandG1987 whatG5101 you are talkingG3004 about.” And he 96wentG1831 outG1831 ontoG1519 the 97porchG4259.98 69The slaveG3814 womanG3814 sawG3708 him, and beganG757 onceG3825 moreG3825 to sayG3004 to the bystandersG3936, “ThisG3778 manG3778 is one of them!” 70But againG3825 99he deniedG720 it. And afterG3326 a littleG3398 whileG3398 the bystandersG3936 were againG3825 sayingG3004 to PeterG4074, “You reallyG230 are one of them, 100for you are a GalileanG1057 asG2532 wellG2532.” 71But he beganG757 to 101curseG332 himself and to swearG3660, “I do not knowG3609 thisG3778 ManG444 of whom you speakG3004!” 72And immediatelyG2117 a roosterG220 crowedG5455 a secondG1208 timeG1208. And PeterG4074 rememberedG363 howG5613 JesusG2424 had madeG3004 the remarkG4487 to him, “BeforeG4250 102a roosterG220 crowsG5455 twiceG1364, you will denyG533 Me threeG5151 timesG5151.” And 103he hurriedG1911 onG1911 and began to weepG2799.
