Chaldeans Used to Punish Judah
1The 1pronouncementH4853 whichH834 HabakkukH2265 the prophetH5030 sawH2372:
22HowH575 longH5704, LordH3068, have I calledH7768 forH7768 helpH7768, And You do not hearH8085? I cryH2199 outH2199 to You, “ViolenceH2555!” Yet You do 3not saveH3467.3WhyH4100 do You makeH7200 me 4seeH7200 disasterH205, And make me lookH5027 at destitutionH5999? Yes, 5devastationH7701 and violenceH2555 are beforeH5048 me; 6StrifeH7379 existsH1961 and contentionH4066 arisesH5375.4ThereforeH5921H3651 the 7LawH8451 8is ignoredH6313, And justiceH4941 9is neverH3808H5331 upheldH3318. For the wickedH7563 10surroundH3803 the righteousH6662; ThereforeH5921H3651 justiceH4941 comesH3318 outH3318 11confusedH6127.
5“12LookH7200 among the nationsH1471! WatchH5027! BeH8539 horrifiedH8539! 13BeH8539 frightenedH8539 speechlessH8539! For I am accomplishingH6466 14a workH6467 in your daysH3117-- You would not believeH539 it even ifH3588 15you were toldH5608!6For beholdH2009, I am 16raisingH6965 upH6965 the ChaldeansH3778, That 17grimH4751 and impetuousH4116 peopleH1471 Who marchH1980 18throughoutH4800 the earthH776, To 19takeH3423 possessionH3423 of dwellingH4908 placesH4908 that are not theirs.7They are terrifyingH366 and 20fearedH3372; Their 21justiceH4941 and 22authorityH7613 23originateH3318 with themselves.8Their 24horsesH5483 areH7043 fasterH7043 thanH4480 leopardsH5246, And quickerH2300 thanH4480 25wolvesH2061 in the eveningH6153. Their 26horsemenH6571 chargeH6335 alongH6335, Their 27horsemenH6571 comeH935 from afarH7350; They flyH5774 like an 28eagleH5404 29swoopingH2363 downH2363 to devourH398.9AllH3605 of them comeH935 for violenceH2555. 30Their hordeH4041 of 31facesH6440 movesH6923 forwardH6923. They gatherH622 captivesH7628 like sandH2344.10They 32makeH7046 funH7046 of kingsH4428, And dignitariesH7336 are an object of laughterH4890 to them. They 33laughH7832 at everyH3605 fortressH4013, Then 34heapH6651 upH6651 dirtH6083 and 35captureH3920 it.11ThenH227 they flyH2498 alongH2498 like the 36windH7307 and passH5674 onH5674. But they will be heldH816 37guiltyH816, They whoseH2098 38strengthH3581 is their godH433.”
12Are You not from 39timeH6924 everlastingH6924, LordH3068, my GodH430, my HolyH6918 OneH6918? We will not dieH4191. You, LordH3068, have 40appointedH7760 them to deliver judgmentH4941; And You, O 41RockH6697, have destinedH3245 them to punishH3198.13Your eyesH5869 are tooH4480 42pureH2889 to lookH7200 at evilH7451, And You cannotH3201H3808 lookH5027 at harmH5999 favorably. WhyH4100 do You 43lookH5027 favorably At those who dealH898 44treacherouslyH898? Why areH2790 You 45silentH2790 when the wickedH7563 46swallowH1104 upH1104 Those moreH4480 righteousH6662 thanH4480 they?14Why have You madeH6213 peopleH120 like the fishH1709 of the seaH3220, Like crawlingH7431 thingsH7431 that have noH3808 rulerH4910 over them?15The Chaldeans 47bringH5927 allH3605 of them upH5927 with a hookH2443, 48DragH1641 them awayH1641 with their netH2764, And gatherH622 them togetherH622 in their fishingH4365 netH4365. ThereforeH5921H3651 they rejoiceH8055 and areH1523 joyfulH1523.16ThereforeH5921H3651 they offerH2076 aH2076 sacrificeH2076 to their netH2764 And 49burnH6999 incenseH6999 to their fishingH4365 netH4365, BecauseH3588 through 50theseH1992 thingsH1992 their 51catchH2506 is 52largeH8082, And their foodH3978 is 53plentifulH1277.17Will they thereforeH5921H3651 emptyH7385 their 54netH2764, And continuallyH8548 55slayH2026 nationsH1471 withoutH3808 sparingH2550?
