Mark 12
Parable of the Vine-growers
11And He beganG757 to speakG2980 to them in parablesG3850: “2A manG444 3plantedG5452 a vineyardG290 and putG4060 a 4fenceG5418 aroundG4060 it, and dugG3736 a vatG5276 underG5276 theG5276 wineG5276 pressG5276 and builtG3618 a towerG4444, and leasedG1554 it to 5vine-growersG1092 and wentG589 onG589 aG589 journeyG589. 2And at the harvest timeG2540 he sentG649 a slaveG1401 to the vine-growersG1092, inG2443 orderG2443 toG2443 receiveG2983 his share of the produceG2590 of the vineyardG290 from the vine-growersG1092. 3And they tookG2983 him, and beatG1194 him, and sentG649 him awayG649 empty-handedG2756. 4And againG3825 he sentG649 them anotherG243 slaveG1401, and they woundedG2775 him inG2775 theG2775 headG2775, and treatedG818 him shamefullyG818. 5And he sentG649 anotherG243, and thatG2548 oneG2548 they killedG615; and so with manyG4183 othersG243, beatingG1194 someG3739G3303 and killingG615 othersG3739G1161. 6He hadG2192 oneG1520 moreG2089 man to send, a belovedG27 sonG5207; he sentG649 him to them lastG2078 of all, sayingG3004, ‘They will respectG1788 my sonG5207.’ 7But thoseG1565 vine-growersG1092 saidG3004 to oneG1438 anotherG1438, ‘ThisG3778 is the heirG2818; comeG1205, let’s killG615 him, and the inheritanceG2817 will be oursG1473!’ 8And they tookG2983 him and killedG615 him, and threwG1544 him outG1544 of the vineyardG290. 9WhatG5101 will the 6ownerG2962 of the vineyardG290 doG4160? He will comeG2064 and putG622 the vine-growersG1092 toG622 deathG622, and giveG1325 the vineyardG290 to othersG243. 10Have you not evenG3761 readG314 thisG3778 ScriptureG1124: ‘7A stoneG3037 whichG3739 the buildersG3618 rejectedG593, ThisG3778 has becomeG1096 the 8chiefG2776 cornerstoneG1137;119ThisG3778 cameG1096 about from the LordG2962, And it is marvelousG2298 in our eyesG3788’?”
1210And they were seekingG2212 to seizeG2902 Him, and yet they fearedG5399 the 11peopleG3793, for they understoodG1097 that He toldG3004 the parableG3850 againstG4314 them. And so 12they leftG863 Him and wentG565 awayG565.
Jesus Answers the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes
1313ThenG2532 they sentG649 someG5100 of the PhariseesG5330 and 14HerodiansG2265 to Him inG2443 orderG2443 toG2443 15trapG64 Him in a statementG3056. 14They cameG2064 and saidG3004 to Him, “TeacherG1320, we knowG3609 that You are truthfulG227 and 16do not careG3199 what anyoneG3762 thinks; for You 17are not partialG991G4383 to anyoneG444, but You teachG1321 the wayG3598 of GodG2316 in truthG225. Is it 18permissibleG1832 to payG1325 a 19poll-taxG2778 to CaesarG2541, orG2228 not? 15Are we to payG1325, orG2228 not payG1325?” But He, knowingG3609 their hypocrisyG5272, saidG3004 to them, “WhyG5101 are you testingG3985 Me? BringG5342 Me a 20denariusG1220 to lookG3708 at.” 16And they broughtG5342 one. And He saidG3004 to them, “WhoseG5101 imageG1504 and inscriptionG1923 is thisG3778?” And they saidG3004 to Him, “Caesar’sG2541.” 17And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to them, “21PayG591 to CaesarG2541 the things that are Caesar’sG2541, and to GodG2316 the things that are God’sG2316.” And they were utterlyG1569 amazedG1569 at Him.
1822Some SadduceesG4523 (whoG3748 sayG3004 that there is noG3361 resurrectionG386) cameG2064 to 23Jesus, and began questioningG1905 Him, sayingG3004, 19“TeacherG1320, MosesG3475 wroteG1125 for us that 24ifG1437 a man’sG5100 brotherG80 diesG599 and leavesG2641 behindG2641 a wifeG1135 and does not leaveG863 a childG5043, his brotherG80 is to 25marryG2983 the wifeG1135 and raiseG1817 upG1817 26childrenG4690 for his brotherG80. 20There were sevenG2033 brothersG80; and the firstG4413 tookG2983 a wifeG1135, and diedG599 leavingG863 noG3756 childrenG4690. 21The secondG1208 oneG1208 27marriedG2983 her, and diedG599 leavingG2641 behindG2641 noG3361 childrenG4690; and the thirdG5154 likewiseG5615; 22and so the sevenG2033 together leftG863 noG3756 childrenG4690. LastG2078 of allG3956 the womanG1135 alsoG2532 diedG599. 23In the resurrectionG386, whichG5101 one’sG846 wifeG1135 will she be? For each of the sevenG2033 had her as his wife.” 24JesusG2424 saidG5346 to them, “Is thisG3778 not the reasonG1223 you are mistakenG4105, that you do not 28understandG3609 the ScripturesG1124 norG3366 the powerG1411 of GodG2316? 25For whenG3752 they riseG450 from the deadG3498, they neitherG3777 marryG1060 norG3777 are givenG1061 inG1061 marriageG1061, but are likeG5613 angelsG32 in heavenG3772. 26But 29regardingG4012 theG3754 factG3754 thatG3754 the deadG3498 riseG1453, have you not readG314 in the bookG976 of MosesG3475, 30in the passage about the burning bushG942, howG4459 GodG2316 spokeG3004 to him, sayingG3004, ‘31I am the GodG2316 of AbrahamG11, the GodG2316 of IsaacG2464, and the GodG2316 of JacobG2384’? 2732He is not the GodG2316 33of the deadG3498, but of the livingG2198; you are greatlyG4183 mistakenG4105.”
2834OneG1520 of the scribesG1122 cameG4334 upG4334 and heardG191 them arguingG4802, and 35recognizingG3708 that He had answeredG611 them wellG2573, askedG1905 Him, “WhatG4169 commandmentG1785 is the 36foremostG4413 of allG3956?” 29JesusG2424 answeredG611, “The 37foremostG4413 is, ‘38HearG191, IsraelG2474! The LordG2962 is our GodG2316, the LordG2962 is oneG1520; 3039and you shall loveG25 the LordG2962 your GodG2316 with allG3650 your heartG2588, and with allG3650 your soulG5590, and with allG3650 your mindG1271, and with allG3650 your strengthG2479.’ 31The secondG1208 is thisG3778: ‘40You shall loveG25 your neighborG4139 as yourselfG4572.’ There is noG3756 otherG243 commandmentG1785 greaterG3173 than theseG3778.” 32And the scribeG1122 saidG3004 to Him, “WellG2573 said, TeacherG1320; You have trulyG1909G225 statedG3004 that 41He is OneG1520, and there is noG3756 otherG243 besidesG4133 Him; 3342and to loveG25 Him with allG3650 the heartG2588, and with allG3650 the understandingG4907, and with allG3650 the strengthG2479, and to loveG25 one’s neighborG4139 as oneselfG1438, 43is muchG4053 moreG4053 than allG3956 the burntG3646 offeringsG3646 and sacrificesG2378.” 34When JesusG2424 sawG3708 that he had answeredG611 intelligentlyG3562, He saidG3004 to him, “You are not farG3112 from the kingdomG932 of GodG2316.” 44And then, noG3762 oneG3762 daredG5111 anyG3765 longerG3765 to questionG1905 Him.
3545And JesusG2424 respondedG611 and began sayingG3004, as He 46taughtG1321 in the templeG2413 area, “HowG4459 is it that the scribesG1122 sayG3004 that the 47ChristG5547 is the 48sonG5207 of DavidG1160? 36DavidG1160 himselfG846 saidG3004 49in the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, ‘50The LordG2962 saidG3004 to my LordG2962, “SitG2521 at My rightG1188 handG1188, UntilG2193 I putG5087 Your enemiesG2190 underG5270 Your feetG4228.”’ 37DavidG1160 himselfG846 callsG3004 Him ‘LordG2962’; soG2532 in whatG4159 senseG4159 is He his sonG5207?” And 51the largeG4183 crowdG3793 52enjoyedG2234 listeningG191 to Him.
3853And in His teachingG1322 He was sayingG3004: “BewareG991 of the scribesG1122 who likeG2309 to walkG4043 aroundG4043 in longG4749 robesG4749, and like 54personalG783 greetingsG783 in the marketplacesG58, 39and seatsG4410 ofG4410 honorG4410 in the synagoguesG4864, and placesG4411 ofG4411 honorG4411 at banquetsG1173, 4055who devourG2719 widows’G5503 housesG3614, and for appearance’sG4392 sakeG4392 offerG4336 longG3117 prayersG4336. TheseG3778 will receiveG2983 allG4053 theG4053 moreG4053 condemnationG2917.”
The Widow’s Coins
4156And Jesus satG2523 downG2523 oppositeG2713 57the treasuryG1049, and began watchingG2334 howG4459 the 58peopleG3793 were 59puttingG906 60moneyG5475 into the treasuryG1049; and manyG4183 richG4145 peopleG4145 were puttingG906 in largeG4183 amountsG4183. 42And a poorG4434 widowG5503 cameG2064 and putG906 in twoG1417 61leptaG3016 coinsG3016, whichG3739 amountG1510 to a 62quadransG2835. 43CallingG4341 His disciplesG3101 to Him, He saidG3004 to them, “TrulyG281 I sayG3004 to you, thisG3778 poorG4434 widowG5503 putG906 in moreG4183 than allG3956 63the contributorsG906 to the treasuryG1049; 44for they allG3956 putG906 in out of their 64surplusG4052, but she, out of her povertyG5304, putG906 in allG3956G3745 she ownedG2192, 65allG3650 she had 66to liveG979 on.”
