Haggai Begins Temple Building
1In the 1secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the kingH4428, on the firstH259 dayH3117 of the sixthH8345 monthH2320, the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 by the prophetH5030 2HaggaiH2292 to 3ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH7597, 4governorH6346 of JudahH3063, and to 5JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, sayingH559, 2“ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 of armiesH6635 6saysH559: ‘ThisH2088 peopleH5971 saysH559, “The timeH6256 has not comeH935, the timeH6256 for the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 to be rebuiltH1129.”’” 3Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 by HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, sayingH559, 4“Is it timeH6256 for you yourselvesH864 to liveH3427 in your paneledH5603 housesH1004 while thisH2088 houseH1004 remains 7desolateH2720?” 5NowH6258 then, the LordH3068 of armiesH6635 saysH559 thisH3541: “8ConsiderH7760H3824H5921 your waysH1870! 6You have 9sownH2232 muchH7235, only to 10harvestH935 littleH4592; you eatH398, but thereH369 isH369 notH369 enough to be satisfiedH7654; you drinkH8354, but thereH369 isH369 notH369 enough to becomeH7937 drunkH7937; you putH3847 onH3847 clothingH3847, but thereH369 isH369 notH369 enough for 11anyone to getH2552 warmH2552; and the one who earnsH7936, earnsH7936 wagesH7939 to put into a moneyH6872 bagH6872 fullH5344 ofH5344 holesH5344.”
7The LordH3068 of armiesH6635 saysH559 thisH3541: “12ConsiderH7760H3824H5921 your waysH1870! 8GoH5927 upH5927 to the 13mountainsH2022, bringH935 woodH6086, and 14rebuildH1129 the 15templeH1004, that I may be 16pleasedH7521 with it and be 17honoredH3513,” saysH559 the LordH3068. 9“18You 19startH6437 an ambitiousH7235 projectH7235, but beholdH2009, it comes to littleH4592; when you bringH935 it homeH1004, I 20blowH5301 it away. WhyH3282H4100?” declaresH5002 the LordH3068 of armiesH6635. “It is becauseH3282 of My houseH1004 whichH834 21remains desolateH2720, while eachH376 of you runsH7323 to his own houseH1004. 10ThereforeH5921H3651, becauseH5921 of you the 22skyH8064 has withheldH3607 23its dewH2919, and the earthH776 has withheldH3607 its produceH2981. 11And I calledH7121 for a 24droughtH2721 on the landH776, on the mountainsH2022, on the grainH1715, on the newH8492 wineH8492, on the oilH3323, on whatH834 the groundH127 producesH3318, on 25mankindH120, on cattleH929, and on 26allH3605 the productsH3018 ofH3018 the laborH3018 of 27your handsH3709.”
12Then 28ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH8032, and 29JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, with allH3605 the remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971, 30obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 their GodH430 and the wordsH1697 of HaggaiH2292 the prophetH5030, justH3512 asH3512 the LordH3068 their GodH430 had sentH7971 him. And the peopleH5971 3132showedH3372 reverenceH3372 for the LordH3068. 13Then HaggaiH2292, the 33messengerH4397 of the LordH3068, spokeH559 34by the commissionH4400 of the LordH3068 to the peopleH5971, sayingH559, “‘35I am with you,’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068.” 14So the LordH3068 stirredH5782 upH5782 the spiritH7307 of 36ZerubbabelH2216 the sonH1121 of ShealtielH8032, 37governorH6346 of JudahH3063, and the spiritH7307 of JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of JehozadakH3087, the highH1419 priestH3548, and the spiritH7307 of allH3605 the 38remnantH7611 of the peopleH5971; and they cameH935 and 39workedH6213H4399 on the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 of armiesH6635, their GodH430, 15on the twenty-fourthH6242H702 dayH3117 of the sixthH8345 monthH2320 in the secondH8147 yearH8141 of DariusH1867 the kingH4428.
