Context of Psalms 75:8

6For not from the east, nor from the west, Nor from the desert comes exaltation; 7But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another. For a cup is in the hand of the Lord, and the wine foams; It is well mixed, and He pours out of this; Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and drink down its dregs. 9But as for me, I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. 10And all the horns of the wicked He will cut off, But the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

• Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-10Verses 6-10 No second causes will raise men to preferment without the First Cause. It comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. He mentions not the north; the same word that signifies the north, signifies the secret place; and from the secret of God's counsel it does come. From God alone all must receive their doom.
