Context of Psalms 75:8
6For not from the east nor from the west, nor yet from the south doth exaltation [come]: 7For God is the judge; he putteth down one and exalteth another. For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and it foameth with wine, it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same; yea, the dregs thereof shall all the wicked of the earth drain off, [and] drink. 9But as for me, I will declare for ever; I will sing psalms to the God of Jacob. 10And all the horns of the wicked will I cut off; [but] the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 6-10Verses 6-10 No second causes will raise men to preferment without the First Cause. It comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. He mentions not the north; the same word that signifies the north, signifies the secret place; and from the secret of God's counsel it does come. From God alone all must receive their doom. There are mixtures of mercy and grace in the cup of affliction, when it is put into the hands of God's people…Read the comment
