Genesis 1
The Creation
11In the beginning 2God 3created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was 45formless and void, and 6darkness was over the 7surface of the deep, and 8the Spirit of God 9was 10moving over the 11surface of the waters. 3Then 12God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4God saw that the light was 13good; and God 14separated the light from the darkness. 515God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And 16there was evening and there was morning, one day.
6Then God said, “Let there be 17an 18expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7God made the 19expanse, and separated 20the waters which were below the 21expanse from the waters 22which were above the 23expanse; and it was so. 8God called the 24expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
9Then God said, “25Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let 26the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10God called the dry land earth, and the 27gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. 11Then God said, “Let the earth sprout 2829vegetation, 30plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after 31their kind 32with seed in them”; and it was so. 12The earth brought forth 33vegetation, 34plants yielding seed after 35their kind, and trees bearing fruit 36with seed in them, after 37their kind; and God saw that it was good. 13There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
14Then God said, “Let there be 3839lights in the 4041expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for 42signs and for 43seasons and for days and years; 15and let them be for 44lights in the 45expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16God made the two 46great lights, the 47greater 48light 49to govern the day, and the lesser 50light 51to govern the night; He made 52the stars also. 1753God placed them in the 54expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18and 55to 56govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
20Then God said, “Let the waters 57teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth 58in the open 59expanse of the heavens.” 21God created 60the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 22God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
2461Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after 62their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after 63their kind”; and it was so. 25God made the 64beasts of the earth after 65their kind, and the cattle after 66their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
26Then God said, “Let 67Us make 68man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them 69rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the 70sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27God created man 71in His own image, in the image of God He created him; 72male and female He created them. 28God blessed them; and God said to them, “73Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the 74sky and over every living thing that 75moves on the earth.” 29Then God said, “Behold, 76I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the 77surface of all the earth, and every tree 78which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; 30and 79to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the 80sky and to every thing that 81moves on the earth 82which has life, I have given every green plant for food”; and it was so. 31God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very 83good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
