Psalms 106

Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Deliverances.

11Praise 2the Lord! Oh 3give thanks to the Lord, for He 4is good; For 5His lovingkindness is everlasting.2Who can speak of the 6mighty deeds of the Lord, Or can show forth all His praise?3How blessed are those who keep 7justice, 8Who 9practice righteousness at all times!

4Remember me, O Lord, in Your 10favor 11toward Your people; Visit me with Your salvation,5That I may see the 12prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may 13rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may 14glory with Your 15inheritance.

616We have sinned 1718like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your 19wonders; They 20did not remember 21Your abundant kindnesses, But 22rebelled by the sea, at the 23Red Sea.8Nevertheless He saved them 24for the sake of His name, That He might 25make His power known.9Thus He 26rebuked the 27Red Sea and it 28dried up, And He 29led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.10So He 30saved them from the 31hand of the one who hated them, And 32redeemed them from the 33hand of the enemy.1134The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.12Then they 35believed His words; They 36sang His praise.

13They quickly 37forgot His works; They 38did not wait for His counsel,14But 39craved intensely in the wilderness, And 4041tempted God in the desert.15So He 42gave them their request, But 43sent a 44wasting disease among them.

16When they became 45envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,17The 46earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the 47company of Abiram.18And a 48fire blazed up in their 49company; The flame consumed the wicked.

19They 50made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image.20Thus they 51exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.21They 52forgot God their Savior, Who had done 53great things in Egypt,225455Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the 56Red Sea.23Therefore 57He said that He would destroy them, Had not 58Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them.24Then they 59despised the 60pleasant land; They 61did not believe in His word,25But 62grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.26Therefore He 6364swore to them That He would cast them down in the wilderness,27And that He would 65cast their seed among the nations And 66scatter them in the lands.

28They 67joined themselves also to 68Baal-peor, And ate 69sacrifices offered to the dead.29Thus they 70provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And the plague broke out among them.30Then Phinehas 71stood up and interposed, And so the 72plague was stayed.31And it was 73reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever.

32They also 74provoked Him to wrath at the waters of 75Meribah, So that it 76went hard with Moses on their account;33Because they 77were rebellious against 78His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.

34They 79did not destroy the peoples, As 80the Lord commanded them,35But 81they mingled with the nations And learned their 82practices,36And 83served their idols, 84Which became a snare to them.37They even 85sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the 86demons,38And shed 87innocent blood, The blood of their 88sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was 89polluted with the blood.39Thus they became 90unclean in their 91practices, And 92played the harlot in their deeds.

40Therefore the 93anger of the Lord was kindled against His people And He 94abhorred His 9596inheritance.41Then 97He gave them into the hand of the 98nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.42Their enemies also 99oppressed them, And they were subdued under their 100power.43Many times He would 101deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their 102counsel, And so 103sank down in their iniquity.

44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He 104heard their cry;45And He 105remembered His covenant for their sake, And 106107relented 108according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.46He also made them 109objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.

47110Save us, O Lord our God, And 111gather us from among the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And 112113glory in Your praise.
