Colossians 1

Thankfulness for Spiritual Attainments

11Paul, 2an apostle of Jesus Christ 34by the will of God, and 5Timothy 6our brother,

2To the 78saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colossae: 9Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

310We give thanks to God, 11the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 412since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the 13love which you have 14for 15all the 16saints; 5because of the 17hope 18laid up for you in 19heaven, of which you previously 20heard in the word of truth, 21the gospel 6which has come to you, just as 2223in all the world also it is constantly bearing 24fruit and 25increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you 26heard of it and 27understood the grace of God in truth; 7just as you learned it from 28Epaphras, our 29beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf, 8and he also informed us of your 30love in the Spirit.

9For this reason also, 31since the day we heard of it, 32we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the 3334knowledge of His will in all spiritual 35wisdom and understanding, 10so that you will 36walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, 3738to please Him in all respects, 39bearing fruit in every good work and 40increasing in the 41knowledge of God; 1142strengthened with all power, according to 43His glorious might, 44for the attaining of all steadfastness and 45patience; 46joyously 12giving thanks to 47the Father, who has qualified us 48to share in 49the inheritance of the 50saints in 51Light.

The Incomparable Christ

1352For He rescued us from the 5354domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of 5556His beloved Son, 1457in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

1558He is the 59image of the 60invisible God, the 61firstborn of all creation. 16For 6263by Him all things were created, 64both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether 65thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--66all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17He 6768is before all things, and in Him all things 69hold together. 18He is also 70head of 71the body, the church; and He is 72the beginning, 73the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19For 74it was 75the Father’s good pleasure for all 76the 77fullness to dwell in Him, 20and through Him to 78reconcile all things to Himself, having made 79peace through 80the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, 81whether things on earth or things in 82heaven.

21And although you were 83formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22yet He has now 84reconciled you in His fleshly 85body through death, in order to 86present you before Him 87holy and blameless and beyond reproach-- 23if indeed you continue in 88the faith firmly 89established and steadfast, and not moved away from the 90hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed 91in all creation under heaven, 92and of which I, Paul, 93was made a 9495minister.

2496Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh 97I 98do my share on behalf of 99His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking 100in Christ’s afflictions. 25101Of this church I 102was made a minister according to the 103stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might 104fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, 26that is, 105the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His 106saints, 27to whom 107God willed to make known what is 108the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is 109Christ in you, the 110hope of glory. 28We proclaim Him, 111admonishing every man and teaching every man 112with all 113wisdom, so that we may 114present every man 115116complete in Christ. 29For this purpose also I 117labor, 118striving 119according to His 120power, which 121mightily works within me.
