Galatians 1
Introduction
1Paul, 1an apostle (2not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but 3through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who 4raised Him from the dead), 2and all 5the brethren who are with me,
To 6the churches of Galatia:
37Grace to you and peace from 8God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4who 9gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from 10this present evil 11age, according to the will of 12our God and Father, 513to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.
Perversion of the Gospel
6I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting 14Him who called you 15by the grace of Christ, for a 16different gospel; 7which is really not another; only there are some who are 17disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we, or 18an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel 19contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be 2021accursed! 9As we 22have said before, so I say again now, 23if any man is preaching to you a gospel 24contrary to what you received, he is to be 2526accursed!
10For am I now 27seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a 28bond-servant of Christ.
Paul Defends His Ministry
11For 29I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is 30not according to man. 12For 31I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a 32revelation of Jesus Christ.
13For you have heard of 33my former manner of life in Judaism, how I 34used to persecute 35the church of God beyond measure and 36tried to destroy it; 14and I 37was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my 38countrymen, being more extremely zealous for my 39ancestral traditions. 15But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and 40called me through His grace, was pleased 16to reveal His Son in me so that I might 41preach Him among the Gentiles, 42I did not immediately consult with 4344flesh and blood, 1745nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went away to Arabia, and returned once more to 46Damascus.
18Then 47three years later I went up 48to Jerusalem to 49become acquainted with 50Cephas, and stayed with him fifteen days. 19But I did not see any other of the apostles except 5152James, the Lord’s brother. 20(Now in what I am writing to you, 53I assure you 54before God that I am not lying.) 21Then 55I went into the regions of 56Syria and 57Cilicia. 22I was still unknown by 58sight to 59the churches of Judea which were 60in Christ; 23but only, they kept hearing, “He who once persecuted us is now preaching 61the faith which he once 62tried to destroy.” 24And they 63were glorifying God 64because of me.
