Psalms 6

Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.

For the choir director; with stringed instruments, Or according to a lower octave (Heb Sheminith)upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David.

1O Lord, 1do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your wrath.2Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am 2pining away; 3Heal me, O Lord, for 4my bones are dismayed.3And my 5soul is greatly dismayed; But You, O Lord--6how long?

4Return, O Lord, 7rescue my 8soul; Save me because of Your lovingkindness.5For 9there is no 10mention of You in death; In 11Sheol who will give You thanks?

6I am 12weary with my sighing; Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with 13my tears.7My 14eye has wasted away with grief; It has become old because of all my adversaries.

8 15Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, For the Lord 16has heard the voice of my weeping.9The Lord 17has heard my supplication, The Lord 18receives my prayer.10All my enemies will 19be ashamed and greatly dismayed; They shall 20turn back, they will 21suddenly be ashamed.
