Psalms 59

Prayer for Deliverance from Enemies.

For the choir director; set to Lit Do Not DestroyAl-tashheth. A Possibly Epigrammatic Poem or Atonement PsalmMikhtam of David, 1 Sam 19:11when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him.

11Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; 23Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.2Deliver me from 4those who do iniquity And save me from 5men of bloodshed.3For behold, they 6have 7set an ambush for my 8life; 9Fierce men 1011launch an attack against me, 12Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord,41314For no guilt of mine, they run and set themselves against me. 15Arouse Yourself to 16help me, and see!5You, 17O Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to 1819punish all the nations; 20Do not be gracious to any who are treacherous in iniquity. 21Selah.6They 22return at evening, they howl like a 23dog, And go around the city.7Behold, they 24belch forth with their mouth; 25Swords are in their lips, For, they say, “26Who hears?”8But You, O Lord, 27laugh at them; You 28scoff at all the nations.

9Because of 29his 30strength I will watch for You, For God is my 31stronghold.1032My God 33in His lovingkindness will meet me; God will let me 34look triumphantly upon 35my foes.11Do not slay them, 36or my people will forget; 3738Scatter them by Your power, and bring them down, O Lord, 39our shield.1240On account of the 41sin of their mouth and the words of their lips, Let them even be 42caught in their pride, And on account of 43curses and 44lies which they utter.134546Destroy them in wrath, 47destroy them that they may be no more; That men may 48know that God 49rules in Jacob To the ends of the earth. Selah.14They 50return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go around the city.15They 51wander about 52for food And 53growl if they are not satisfied.

16But as for me, I shall 54sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall 55joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the 56morning, For You have been my 57stronghold And a 58refuge in the day of my distress.1759O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my 60stronghold, the 61God who shows me lovingkindness.
