Psalms 37
Security of Those Who Trust in the Lord, and Insecurity of the Wicked.
A Psalm of David.
11Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not 2envious toward wrongdoers.2For they will 3wither quickly like the grass And 4fade like the green herb.35Trust in the Lord and do good; 6Dwell in the land and 78cultivate faithfulness.49Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will 10give you the desires of your heart.511Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.6He will bring forth 12your righteousness as the light And your judgment 13as the noonday.
714Rest in the Lord and 15wait 16patiently for Him; 17Do not fret because of him who 18prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.8Cease from anger and 19forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.9For 20evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the Lord, they will 21inherit the land.10Yet 22a little while and the wicked man will be no more; And you will look carefully for 23his place and he will not be there.11But 24the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in 25abundant prosperity.
12The wicked 26plots against the righteous And 27gnashes at him with his teeth.13The Lord 28laughs at him, For He sees 29his day is coming.14The wicked have drawn the sword and 30bent their bow To cast down the 31afflicted and the needy, To 32slay those who are upright in conduct.15Their sword will enter their own heart, And their 33bows will be broken.
1634Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked.17For the 35arms of the wicked will be broken, But the Lord 36sustains the righteous.18The Lord 37knows the days of the 38blameless, And their 39inheritance will be forever.19They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, And 40in the days of famine they will have abundance.20But the 41wicked will perish; And the enemies of the Lord will be like the 42glory of the pastures, They vanish--43like smoke they vanish away.21The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous 44is gracious and gives.22For 45those blessed by Him will 46inherit the land, But those 47cursed by Him will be cut off.
2348The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He 49delights in his way.24When 50he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because 51the Lord is the One 52who holds his hand.25I have been young and now I am old, Yet 53I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or 54his 55descendants begging bread.26All day long 56he is gracious and lends, And 57his 58descendants are a blessing.
2759Depart from evil and do good, 60So you will abide 61forever.28For the Lord 62loves 63justice And 64does not forsake His godly ones; They are 65preserved forever, But the 6667descendants of the wicked will be cut off.29The righteous will 68inherit the land And 69dwell in it forever.30The mouth of the righteous 70utters wisdom, And his tongue 71speaks justice.31The 72law of his God is in his heart; His 73steps do not slip.32The 74wicked spies upon the righteous And 75seeks to kill him.33The Lord will 76not leave him in his hand Or 77let him be condemned when he is judged.3478Wait for the Lord and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the 79wicked are cut off, you will see it.
35I have 80seen a wicked, violent man Spreading himself like a 81luxuriant 82tree in its native soil.36Then 83he passed away, and lo, he 84was no more; I sought for him, but he could not be found.37Mark the 8586blameless man, and behold the 87upright; For the man of peace will have a 8889posterity.38But transgressors will be altogether 90destroyed; The 91posterity of the wicked will be 92cut off.39But the 93salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength 94in time of trouble.4095The Lord helps them and delivers them; He 96delivers them from the wicked and saves them, Because they 97take refuge in Him.
