Psalms 71
Prayer of an Old Man for Deliverance.
11In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge; Let me never be ashamed.22In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; 3Incline Your ear to me and save me.34Be to me a rock of 5habitation to which I may continually come; You have given 6commandment to save me, For You are 7my 8rock and my fortress.49Rescue me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the 10grasp of the wrongdoer and ruthless man,5For You are my 11hope; O Lord 12God, You are my 13confidence from my youth.614By You I have been 15sustained from my birth; You are He who 16took me from my mother’s womb; My 17praise is continually 18of You.
7I have become a 19marvel to many, For You are 20my strong refuge.8My 21mouth is filled with Your praise And with 22Your glory all day long.9Do not cast me off in the 23time of old age; Do not forsake me when my strength fails.10For my enemies have spoken 24against me; And those who 25watch for my 26life 27have consulted together,11Saying, “28God has forsaken him; Pursue and seize him, for there is 29no one to deliver.”
12O God, 30do not be far from me; O my God, 31hasten to my help!13Let those who are adversaries of my soul be 32ashamed and consumed; Let them be 33covered with reproach and dishonor, who 34seek 35to injure me.14But as for me, I will 36hope continually, And will 3738praise You yet more and more.15My 39mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And of 40Your salvation all day long; For I 41do not know the 42sum of them.16I will come 43with the mighty deeds of the Lord 44God; I will 45make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
17O God, You 46have taught me from my youth, And I still 47declare Your wondrous deeds.18And even when I am 48old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, Until I 49declare Your 50strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.1951For Your 52righteousness, O God, reaches to the 53heavens, You who have 54done great things; O God, 55who is like You?20You who have 56shown 57me many troubles and distresses Will 58revive 59me again, And will bring 60me up again 61from the depths of the earth.21May You increase my 62greatness And turn to 63comfort me.
22I will also praise You with 6465a harp, Even Your 66truth, O my God; To You I will sing praises with the 67lyre, O 68Holy One of Israel.23My lips will 69shout for joy when I sing praises to You; And my 70soul, which You have redeemed.24My 71tongue also will utter Your righteousness all day long; For they are 72ashamed, for they are humiliated who seek 73my hurt.
