3 John 1

You Walk in the Truth

11The elder to the beloved 2Gaius, whom I 3love in truth.

2Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3For I 4was very glad when 5brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you 6are walking in truth. 4I have no greater joy than 7this, to hear of 8my children 9walking in the truth.

5Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the 10brethren, and 11especially when they are 12strangers; 6and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to 13send them on their way in a manner 14worthy of God. 7For they went out for the sake of 15the Name, 16accepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8Therefore we ought to 17support such men, so that we may 18be fellow workers 19with the truth.

9I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to 20be first among them, does not accept 21what we say. 10For this reason, 22if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not 23receive the 24brethren, either, and he forbids those who desire to do so and 25puts them out of the church.

11Beloved, 26do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. 27The one who does good is of God; 28the one who does evil has not seen God. 12Demetrius 29has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we add our testimony, and 30you know that our testimony is true.

1331I had many things to write to you, but I am not willing to write them to you with pen and ink; 14but I hope to see you shortly, and we will speak face to face.

32Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends 33by name.
