Psalms 56

Supplication for Deliverance and Grateful Trust in God.

For the choir director; according to Or The silent dove of those who are far off, or, The dove of the distant terebinthsJonath elem rehokim. A Possibly Epigrammatic Poem, or Atonement PsalmMikhtam of David, 1 Sam 21:10, 11when the Philistines seized him in Gath.

1Be gracious to me, O God, for man has 12trampled upon me; 3Fighting all day long he 4oppresses me.2My foes have 56trampled upon me all day long, For 7they are many who 8fight proudly against me.39When I am 10afraid, 11I will 12put my trust in You.413In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. 14What can mere 15man do to me?5All day long they 1617distort my words; All their 1819thoughts are against me for evil.6They 2021attack, they lurk, They 22watch my 23steps, As they have 24waited to take my 25life.7Because of wickedness, 2627cast them forth, In anger 28put down the peoples, O God!

8You 29have taken account of my wanderings; Put my 30tears in Your bottle. Are they not in 31Your book?9Then my enemies will 32turn back 33in the day when I call; This I know, 34that 35God is for me.10In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise,11In God I have put my 36trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?12Your 37vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.13For You have 38delivered my soul from death, 39Indeed 40my feet from stumbling, So that I may 41walk before God In the 42light of the 43living.
