Psalms 94

The Lord Implored to Avenge His People.

1O Lord, God of 12vengeance, God of 3vengeance, 45shine forth!26Rise up, O 7Judge of the earth, Render recompense 8to the proud.3How long shall the wicked, O Lord, How long shall the 9wicked exult?4They pour forth words, they 10speak arrogantly; All who do wickedness 11vaunt themselves.5They 12crush Your people, O Lord, And 13afflict Your heritage.6They 14slay the widow and the 15stranger And murder the orphans.716They have said, “17The Lord does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.”

8Pay heed, you 18senseless among the people; And when will you understand, 19stupid ones?9He who 20planted the ear, 21does He not hear? He who formed the eye, 22does He not see?10He who 2324chastens the nations, will He not rebuke, Even He who 25teaches man knowledge?11The Lord 26knows the thoughts of man, 27That they are a mere breath.

12Blessed is the man whom 28You chasten, O 29Lord, And 30whom You teach out of Your law;13That You may grant him 31relief from the 32days of adversity, Until 33a pit is dug for the wicked.14For 34the Lord will not abandon His people, Nor will He 35forsake His inheritance.15For 3637judgment 38will again be righteous, And all the upright in heart 39will follow it.16Who will 40stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me 41against those who do wickedness?

17If 42the Lord had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.18If I should say, “43My foot has slipped,” Your lovingkindness, O Lord, will hold me up.19When my anxious thoughts 44multiply within me, Your 45consolations delight my soul.20Can a 4647throne of destruction be allied with You, One 48which devises 49mischief by decree?21They 50band themselves together against the 51life of the righteous And 52condemn 53the innocent to death.22But the Lord has been my 54stronghold, And my God the 55rock of my refuge.23He has 56brought back their wickedness upon them And will 5758destroy them in their evil; The Lord our God will 59destroy them.
