Psalms 102

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the Afflicted when he is faint and Ps 142:2pours out his complaint before the Lord.

11Hear my prayer, O Lord! And let my cry for help 2come to You.23Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; 4Incline Your ear to me; In the day when I call 5answer me quickly.3For my days 6have been 7consumed in smoke, And my 8bones have been scorched like a hearth.4My heart 9has been smitten like 10grass and has 11withered away, Indeed, I 12forget to eat my bread.5Because of the 13loudness of my groaning My 14bones 15cling to my flesh.6I 16resemble a 17pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the waste places.7I 18lie awake, I have become like a lonely bird on a housetop.

8My enemies 19have reproached me all day long; Those who 2021deride me 22have used my name as a 23curse.9For I have eaten ashes like bread And 24mingled my drink with weeping1025Because of Your indignation and Your wrath, For You have 26lifted me up and cast me away.11My days are like a 2728lengthened shadow, And 29I 30wither away like 31grass.

12But You, O Lord, 3233abide forever, And Your 3435name to all generations.13You will 36arise and have 37compassion on Zion; For 38it is time to be gracious to her, For the 39appointed time has come.14Surely Your servants 40find pleasure in her stones And feel pity for her dust.1541So the 4243nations will fear the name of the Lord And 44all the kings of the earth Your glory.16For the Lord has 45built up Zion; He has 46appeared in His glory.17He has 47regarded the prayer of the 48destitute And has not despised their prayer.

1849This will be 50written for the 51generation to come, 52That 53a people yet to be created 54may praise 55the Lord.19For He 56looked down from His holy height; 57From heaven the Lord gazed 58upon the earth,20To hear the 59groaning of the prisoner, To 60set free 61those who were doomed to death,21That men may 62tell of the name of the Lord in Zion And His praise in Jerusalem,22When 63the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23He has weakened my strength in the way; He has 64shortened my days.24I say, “O my God, 65do not take me away in the 66midst of my days, Your 67years are throughout all generations.25Of old You 68founded the earth, And the 69heavens are the work of Your hands.2670Even they will 71perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed.27But You are 7273the same, And Your years will not come to an end.28The 74children of Your servants will continue, And their 7576descendants will be established before You.”
