Psalms 17

Prayer for Protection against Oppressors.

A Prayer of David.

1Hear a 1just cause, O Lord, 2give heed to my cry; 3Give ear to my prayer, which is not from 4deceitful lips.2Let 5my 6judgment come forth from Your presence; Let Your eyes look with 7equity.3You have 8tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have 9tested me and 10You find 11nothing; I have 12purposed that my mouth will not transgress.4As for the deeds of men, 13by the word of Your lips I have kept from the 14paths of the violent.5My 15steps have held fast to Your 16paths. My 17feet have not slipped.

6I have 18called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; 19Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.720Wondrously show Your lovingkindness, O 21Savior of those who take refuge 22at Your right hand From those who rise up against them.8Keep me as 23the 24apple of the eye; Hide me 25in the shadow of Your wings9From the 26wicked who despoil me, My 27deadly enemies who surround me.10They have 28closed their 29unfeeling heart, With their mouth they 30speak proudly.11They have now 31surrounded us in our steps; They set their eyes 32to cast us down to the ground.12He is 33like a lion that is eager to tear, And as a young lion 34lurking in hiding places.

1335Arise, O Lord, confront him, 36bring him low; 37Deliver my soul from the wicked with 38Your sword,14From men with 39Your hand, O Lord, From men 40of the world, 41whose portion is in this life, And whose belly You 42fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children, And leave their abundance to their babes.15As for me, I shall 43behold Your face in righteousness; 44I will be satisfied 45with Your 46likeness when I awake.
