Psalms 139
God’s Omnipresence and Omniscience.
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
1O Lord, You have 1searched me and known me.2You 2know 3when I sit down and 4when I rise up; You 5understand my thought from afar.3You 67scrutinize my 8path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.49Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You 10know it all.5You have 11enclosed me behind and before, And 12laid Your hand upon me.6Such 13knowledge is 14too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.
715Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?816If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in 17Sheol, behold, 18You are there.9If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,10Even there Your hand will 19lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.11If I say, “Surely the 20darkness will 21overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,”12Even the 22darkness is not dark 23to You, And the night is as bright as the day. 24Darkness and light are alike to You.
13For You 25formed my 26inward parts; You 27wove me in my mother’s womb.14I will give thanks to You, for 28I am fearfully and wonderfully made; 29Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.15My 3031frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the 32depths of the earth;16Your 33eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in 34Your book were all written The 35days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.
17How precious also are Your 36thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!18If I should count them, they would 37outnumber the sand. When 38I awake, I am still with You.
19O that You would 39slay the wicked, O God; 40Depart from me, therefore, 41men of bloodshed.20For they 42speak 43against You wickedly, And Your enemies 4445take Your name in vain.21Do I not 46hate those who hate You, O Lord? And do I not 47loathe those who rise up against You?22I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies.
2348Search me, O God, and know my heart; 49Try me and know my anxious thoughts;24And see if there be any 5051hurtful way in me, And 52lead me in the 53everlasting way.
