Psalms 90
God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness.
A Prayer of Deut 33:1Moses, the man of God.
1Lord, You have been our 12dwelling place in all generations.2Before 3the mountains were born 4Or You 5gave birth to the earth and the world, Even 6from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3You 7turn man back into dust And say, “Return, O children of men.”4For 8a thousand years in Your sight Are like 9yesterday when it passes by, 10Or as a 11watch in the night.5You 12have 13swept them away like a flood, they 1415fall asleep; In the morning they are like 16grass which 17sprouts anew.6In the morning it 18flourishes and 19sprouts anew; Toward evening it 20fades and 21withers away.
7For we have been 22consumed by Your anger And by Your wrath we have been 23dismayed.8You have 24placed our iniquities before You, Our 25secret sins in the light of Your presence.9For 26all our days have declined in Your fury; We have finished our years like a 27sigh.10As for the days of our 28life, 29they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, 30eighty years, Yet their pride is but 31labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we 32fly away.11Who 33understands the 34power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the 35fear 36that is due You?12So 37teach us to number our days, That we may 3839present to You a heart of wisdom.
13Do 40return, O Lord; 41how long will it be? And 42be 43sorry for Your servants.14O 44satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, That we may 45sing for joy and be glad all our days.1546Make us glad 47according to the days You have afflicted us, And the 48years we have seen 49evil.16Let Your 50work appear to Your servants And Your 51majesty 52to their children.17Let the 53favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And 5455confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, 56confirm the work of our hands.
