Psalms 106:28-46

28They 1joined themselves also to 2Baal-peor, And ate 3sacrifices offered to the dead.29Thus they 4provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And the plague broke out among them.30Then Phinehas 5stood up and interposed, And so the 6plague was stayed.31And it was 7reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever.

32They also 8provoked Him to wrath at the waters of 9Meribah, So that it 10went hard with Moses on their account;33Because they 11were rebellious against 12His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.

34They 13did not destroy the peoples, As 14the Lord commanded them,35But 15they mingled with the nations And learned their 16practices,36And 17served their idols, 18Which became a snare to them.37They even 19sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the 20demons,38And shed 21innocent blood, The blood of their 22sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was 23polluted with the blood.39Thus they became 24unclean in their 25practices, And 26played the harlot in their deeds.

40Therefore the 27anger of the Lord was kindled against His people And He 28abhorred His 2930inheritance.41Then 31He gave them into the hand of the 32nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.42Their enemies also 33oppressed them, And they were subdued under their 34power.43Many times He would 35deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their 36counsel, And so 37sank down in their iniquity.

44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He 38heard their cry;45And He 39remembered His covenant for their sake, And 4041relented 42according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.46He also made them 43objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.
