Psalms 106:28-46

28They also 1followed 2Baal-peor, And ate 3sacrifices offered to the dead.29So they 4provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And a plague broke out among them.30Then Phinehas 5stood up and 6intervened, And so the 7plague was brought to a halt.31And it was 8credited to him as righteousness, To all generations forever.

32They also 9provoked Him to wrath at the waters of 10Meribah, So that it 11went badly for Moses on their account.33Because they 12were rebellious against 13His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.

34They 14did not destroy the peoples, As 15the Lord had commanded them,35But 16they got involved with the nations And learned their 17practices,36And 18served their idols, 19Which became a snare to them.37They even 20sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the 21demons,38And shed 22innocent blood, The blood of their 23sons and their daughters Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was 24defiled with the blood.39So they became 25unclean in their 26practices, And 2728were unfaithful in their deeds.

40Therefore the 29anger of the Lord was kindled against His people, And He 30loathed His 3132inheritance.41So 33He handed them over to the 34nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.42Their enemies also 35oppressed them, And they were subdued under their 36power.43Many times He would 37rescue them; They, however, were rebellious in their 38plan, And they 39sank down into their guilt.

44Nevertheless He looked at their distress When He 40heard their cry;45And He 41remembered His covenant for their sake, And 4243relented 44according to the greatness of His mercy.46He also made them 45objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.
