Psalms 37

Security of Those Who Trust in the Lord, and Insecurity of the Wicked.

A Psalm of David.

11Do not get upset because of evildoers, Do not be 2envious of wrongdoers.2For they will 3wither quickly like the grass, And 4decay like the green plants.35Trust in the Lord and do good; 6Live in the land and 78cultivate faithfulness.49Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will 10give you the desires of your heart.511Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.6He will bring out 12your righteousness as the light, And your judgment 13as the noonday.

714Rest in the Lord and 15wait 16patiently for Him; 17Do not get upset because of one who is 18successful in his way, Because of the person who carries out wicked schemes.8Cease from anger and 19abandon wrath; Do not get upset; it leads only to evildoing.9For 20evildoers will be eliminated, But those who wait for the Lord, they will 21inherit the land.10Yet 22a little while and the wicked person will be no more; And you will look carefully for 23his place and he will not be there.11But 24the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in 25abundant prosperity.

12The wicked 26plots against the righteous, And 27gnashes at him with his teeth.13The Lord 28laughs at him, For He sees that 29his day is coming.14The wicked have drawn the sword and 30bent their bow To take down the 31afflicted and the needy, To 32kill off those who are upright in conduct.15Their sword will enter their own heart, And their 33bows will be broken.

1634Better is the little of the righteous Than the abundance of many wicked.17For the 35arms of the wicked will be broken, But the Lord 36sustains the righteous.18The Lord 37knows the days of the 38blameless, And their 39inheritance will be forever.19They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, And 40in the days of famine they will have plenty.20But the 41wicked will perish; And the enemies of the Lord will be like the 42glory of the pastures, They vanish--43like smoke they vanish away.21The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous 44is gracious and gives.22For 45those blessed by Him will 46inherit the land, But those 47cursed by Him will be eliminated.

2348The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He 49delights in his way.24When 50he falls, he will not be hurled down, Because 51the Lord is the One 52who holds his hand.25I have been young and now I am old, Yet 53I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or 54his 55descendants begging for bread.26All day long 56he is gracious and lends, And 57his 58descendants are a blessing.

2759Turn from evil and do good, So that you will dwell 60forever.28For the Lord 61loves 62justice And 63does not abandon His godly ones; They are 64protected forever, But the 6566descendants of the wicked will be eliminated.29The righteous will 67inherit the land And 68dwell in it forever.30The mouth of the righteous 69utters wisdom, And his tongue 70speaks justice.31The 71Law of his God is in his heart; His 72steps do not slip.32The 73wicked spies upon the righteous And 74seeks to kill him.33The Lord will 75not leave him in his hand Or 76let him be condemned when he is judged.3477Wait for the Lord and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the 78wicked are eliminated, you will see it.

35I have 79seen a wicked, violent person Spreading himself like a 80luxuriant 81tree in its native soil.36Then he passed away, and behold, he 82was no more; I searched for him, but he could not be found.37Observe the 8384blameless person, and look at the 85upright; For the person of peace will have 86a future.38But wrongdoers will altogether be 87destroyed; The future of the wicked will be 88eliminated.39But the 89salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength 90in time of trouble.4091The Lord helps them and rescues them; He 92rescues them from the wicked and saves them, Because they 93take refuge in Him.
