Psalms 90
God’s Eternity and the Brevity of Human Life.
A Prayer of Deut 33:1Moses, the man of God.
1Lord, You have been our 12dwelling place in all generations.2Before 3the mountains were born 4Or You 5gave birth to the earth and the world, Even 6from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3You 7turn mortals back into dust And say, “Return, you sons of mankind.”4For 8a thousand years in Your sight Are like 9yesterday when it passes by, 10Or like a 11watch in the night.5You 12have 13swept them away like a flood, they 1415fall asleep; In the morning they are like 16grass that 17sprouts anew.6In the morning it 18flourishes and 19sprouts anew; Toward evening it 20wilts and 21withers away.
7For we have been 22consumed by Your anger, And we have been terrified by Your wrath.8You have 23placed our guilty deeds before You, Our 24hidden sins in the light of Your presence.9For 25all our days have dwindled away in Your fury; We have finished our years like a 26sigh.10As for the days of our 27life, 28they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, 29eighty years, Yet their pride is only 30trouble and tragedy; For it quickly passes, and we 31disappear.11Who 32understands the 33power of Your anger And Your fury, according to the 34fear 35that is due You?12So 36teach us to number our days, That we may 3738present to You a heart of wisdom.
13Do 39return, Lord; 40how long will it be? And 41be 42sorry for Your servants.1443Satisfy us in the morning with Your graciousness, That we may 44sing for joy and rejoice all our days.1545Make us glad 46according to the days You have afflicted us, And the 47years we have seen 48evil.16Let Your 49work appear to Your servants And Your 50majesty 51to their children.17May the 52kindness of the Lord our God be upon us; And 5354confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, 55confirm the work of our hands.
