Psalms 44:9-22
9Yet You 1have rejected us and brought us to 2dishonor, And 3do not go out with our armies.10You cause us to 4turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us 5have taken spoil for themselves.11You give us as 6sheep 7to be eaten And have 8scattered us among the nations.12You 9sell Your people 10cheaply, And have not 11profited by their sale.13You make us a 12reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a 13derision to those around us.14You make us 14a byword among the nations, A 1516laughingstock among the peoples.15All day long my dishonor is before me And 17my 18humiliation has overwhelmed me,16Because of the voice of him who 19reproaches and reviles, Because of the presence of the 20enemy and the avenger.
17All this has come upon us, but we have 21not forgotten You, And we have not 22dealt falsely with Your covenant.18Our heart has not 23turned back, And our steps 24have not deviated from Your way,19Yet You have 25crushed us in a place of 26jackals And covered us with 27the shadow of death.
20If we had 28forgotten the name of our God Or extended our 29hands to 30a strange god,21Would not God 31find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.22But 32for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are considered as 33sheep to be slaughtered.
