Psalms 44:9-22
9Yet You 1have rejected us and brought us to 2dishonor, And 3do not go out with our armies.10You cause us to 4turn back from the enemy; And those who hate us 5have taken spoils for themselves.11You turn us over 6to be eaten like 7sheep, And have 8scattered us among the nations.12You 9sell Your people 10cheaply, And have not 11profited by their sale.13You make us an object of 12reproach to our neighbors, Of scoffing and 13ridicule to those around us.14You make us 14a proverb among the nations, A 1516laughingstock among the peoples.15All day long my dishonor is before me And 17I am covered with my 18humiliation,16Because of the voice of one who 19taunts and reviles, Because of the presence of the 20enemy and the avenger.
17All this has come upon us, but we have 21not forgotten You, And we have not 22dealt falsely with Your covenant.18Our heart has not 23turned back, And our steps 24have not deviated from Your way,19Yet You have 25crushed us in a place of 26jackals And covered us with 2728deep darkness.
20If we had 29forgotten the name of our God Or extended our 30hands to 31a strange god,21Would God not 32find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.22But 33for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are regarded as 34sheep to be slaughtered.
