Context of Psalms 88:10
8You have removed my acquaintances far from me; You have made me an object of loathing to them; I am shut up and cannot go out. 9My eye has wasted away because of affliction; I have called upon You every day, O Lord; I have spread out my hands to You. Will You perform wonders for the dead? Will the departed spirits rise and praise You? Selah. 11Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? 12Will Your wonders be made known in the darkness? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 10Wilt thou show wonders to the dead? - The wonders - or the things suited to excite admiration - which the living behold. He urges this as a reason why he…Read the comment
- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 10-18Verses 10-18 Departed souls may declare God's faithfulness, justice, and lovingkindness; but deceased bodies can neither receive God's favours in comfort, nor return them in praise. The psalmist resolved to continue in prayer, and the more so, because deliverance did not come speedily. Though our prayers are not soon answered, yet we must not give over praying. The greater our troubles, the more earnest and serious we should be in prayer. Nothing grieves…Read the comment
