Psalms 73:2-28
2But as for me, 1my feet came close to stumbling, My steps 2had almost slipped.3For I was 3envious of the 4arrogant As I saw the 5prosperity of the wicked.4For there are no pains in their death, And their 6body is fat.5They are 7not 8in trouble as other 9men, Nor are they 10plagued 11like mankind.6Therefore pride is 12their necklace; The 13garment of violence covers them.7Their eye 14bulges from 15fatness; The imaginations of their heart 16run riot.8They 17mock and 18wickedly speak of oppression; They 19speak from on high.9They have 20set their mouth 21against the heavens, And their tongue 22parades through the earth.
10Therefore 23his people return to this place, And waters of 24abundance are 25drunk by them.11They say, “26How does God know? And is there knowledge 27with the Most High?”12Behold, 28these are the wicked; And always 29at ease, they have increased in wealth.13Surely 30in vain I have 31kept my heart pure And 32washed my hands in innocence;14For I have been stricken 33all day long And 3435chastened every morning.
15If I had said, “I will speak thus,” Behold, I would have betrayed the 36generation of Your children.16When I 37pondered to understand this, It was 38troublesome in my sight17Until I came into the 3940sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their 41end.18Surely You set them in 42slippery places; You cast them down to 4344destruction.19How they are 4546destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by 47sudden terrors!20Like a 48dream when one awakes, O Lord, when 49aroused, You will 50despise their 51form.
21When my 52heart was embittered And I was 53pierced 54within,22Then I was 55senseless and ignorant; I was like 56a 57beast 58before You.23Nevertheless 59I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.24With Your counsel You will 60guide me, And afterward 61receive me 62to glory.
2563Whom have I in heaven but You? And 64besides You, I desire nothing on earth.26My 65flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the 66strength of my heart and my 67portion forever.27For, behold, 68those who are far from You will 69perish; You have 70destroyed all those who 7172are unfaithful to You.28But as for me, 73the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord 74God my 75refuge, That I may 76tell of all Your works.
