Psalms 59

Prayer for Rescue from Enemies.

For the music director; set to Lit Do Not DestroyAl-tashheth. A Possibly Epigrammatic Poem or Atonement PsalmMikhtam of David, 1 Sam 19:11when Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to kill him.

11Rescue me from my enemies, my God; 23Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.2Rescue me from 4those who practice injustice, And save me from 5men of bloodshed.3For behold, they 6have 7set an ambush for my 8life; 9Fierce men 10attack me, 11Not for my wrongdoing nor for my sin, Lord,41213For no guilt of mine, they run and take their stand against me. 14Stir Yourself to 15help me, and see!5You, 16Lord God of armies, the God of Israel, Awake to 1718punish all the nations; 19Do not be gracious to any who deal treacherously in wrongdoing. Selah6They 20return at evening, they howl like a 21dog, And prowl around the city.7Behold, they 22gush forth with their mouths; 23Swords are in their lips, For, they say, “24Who hears?”8But You, Lord, 25laugh at them; You 26scoff at all the nations.

9Because of 27his 28strength I will watch for You, For God is my 29refuge.1030My God 31in His faithfulness will meet me; God will let me 32look triumphantly upon my enemies.11Do not kill them, 33or my people will forget; 3435Scatter them by Your power and bring them down, Lord, 36our shield.1237On account of the 38sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, May they even be 39caught in their pride, And on account of 40curses and lies which they tell.134142Destroy them in wrath, 43destroy them so that they will no longer exist; So that people may 44know that God 45rules in Jacob, To the ends of the earth. Selah14They 46return at evening, they howl like a dog, And prowl around the city.15They 47wander about 48for food And 49murmur if they are not satisfied.

16But as for me, I will 50sing of Your strength; Yes, I will 51joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the 52morning, For You have been my 53refuge And a 54place of refuge on the day of my distress.1755My strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my 56refuge, the 57God who shows me favor.
