Psalms 106

Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Help.

11Praise 2the Lord! Oh 3give thanks to the Lord, for He 4is good; For 5His mercy is everlasting.2Who can speak of the 6mighty deeds of the Lord, Or can proclaim all His praise?3How blessed are those who maintain 7justice, 8Who 9practice righteousness at all times!

4Remember me, Lord, in Your 10favor 11toward Your people. Visit me with Your salvation,5So that I may see the 12prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may 13rejoice in the joy of Your nation, That I may 14boast with Your 15inheritance.

616We have sinned 1718like our fathers, We have gone astray, we have behaved wickedly.7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your 19wonders; They 20did not remember 21Your abundant kindnesses, But 22rebelled by the sea, at the 23Red Sea.8Nevertheless He saved them 24for the sake of His name, So that He might 25make His power known.9So He 26rebuked the 27Red Sea and it 28dried up, And He 29led them through the mighty waters, as through the wilderness.10So He 30saved them from the 31hand of one who hated them, And 32redeemed them from the 33hand of the enemy.1134The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.12Then they 35believed His words; They 36sang His praise.

13They quickly 37forgot His works; They 38did not wait for His plan,14But 39became lustfully greedy in the wilderness, And 40put God to the test in the desert.15So He 41gave them their request, But 42sent a 43wasting disease among them.

16When they became 44envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,17The 45earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the 46company of Abiram.18And a 47fire blazed up in their 48company; The flame consumed the wicked.

19They 49made a calf in Horeb, And worshiped a cast metal image.20So they 50exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.21They 51forgot God their Savior, Who had done 52great things in Egypt,225354Wonders in the land of Ham, And awesome things by the 55Red Sea.23Therefore 56He said that He would destroy them, If 57Moses, His chosen one, had not stood in the gap before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them.24Then they 58rejected the 59pleasant land; They 60did not believe His word,25But 61grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.26Therefore He 6263swore to them That He would have them fall in the wilderness,27And that He would 64bring down their 65descendants among the nations, And 66scatter them in the lands.

28They also 67followed 68Baal-peor, And ate 69sacrifices offered to the dead.29So they 70provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And a plague broke out among them.30Then Phinehas 71stood up and 72intervened, And so the 73plague was brought to a halt.31And it was 74credited to him as righteousness, To all generations forever.

32They also 75provoked Him to wrath at the waters of 76Meribah, So that it 77went badly for Moses on their account.33Because they 78were rebellious against 79His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.

34They 80did not destroy the peoples, As 81the Lord had commanded them,35But 82they got involved with the nations And learned their 83practices,36And 84served their idols, 85Which became a snare to them.37They even 86sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the 87demons,38And shed 88innocent blood, The blood of their 89sons and their daughters Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was 90defiled with the blood.39So they became 91unclean in their 92practices, And 9394were unfaithful in their deeds.

40Therefore the 95anger of the Lord was kindled against His people, And He 96loathed His 9798inheritance.41So 99He handed them over to the 100nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.42Their enemies also 101oppressed them, And they were subdued under their 102power.43Many times He would 103rescue them; They, however, were rebellious in their 104plan, And they 105sank down into their guilt.

44Nevertheless He looked at their distress When He 106heard their cry;45And He 107remembered His covenant for their sake, And 108109relented 110according to the greatness of His mercy.46He also made them 111objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.

47112Save us, Lord our God, And 113gather us from the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And 114glory in Your praise.
