Psalms 78:9-41
9The sons of Ephraim 1were 2archers equipped with bows, Yet 3they turned back in the day of battle.10They 4did not keep the covenant of God And refused to 5walk in His law;11They 6forgot His deeds And His 7miracles that He had shown them.128He wrought wonders before their fathers In the land of Egypt, in the 9field of Zoan.13He 10divided the sea and caused them to pass through, And He made the waters stand 11up like a heap.14Then He led them with the cloud by 12day And all the night with a 13light of fire.15He 14split the rocks in the wilderness And gave them abundant drink like the ocean depths.16He 15brought forth streams also from the rock And caused waters to run down like rivers.
17Yet they still continued to sin against Him, To 16rebel against the Most High in the desert.18And in their heart they 17put God to the test By asking 18food according to their desire.19Then they spoke against God; They said, “19Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?20Behold, He 20struck the rock so that waters gushed out, And streams were overflowing; Can He give bread also? Will He provide 2122meat for His people?”
21Therefore the Lord heard and 23was 24full of wrath; And a fire was kindled against Jacob And anger also mounted against Israel,22Because they 25did not believe in God And did not trust in His salvation.23Yet He commanded the clouds above And 26opened the doors of heaven;24He 27rained down manna upon them to eat And gave them 2829food from heaven.25Man did eat the bread of 30angels; He sent them 31food 3233in abundance.26He 34caused the east wind to blow in the heavens And by His 35power He directed the south wind.27When He rained 36meat upon them like the dust, Even 37winged fowl like the sand of the seas,28Then He let them fall in the midst of 38their camp, Round about their dwellings.29So they 39ate and were well filled, And their desire He gave to them.3040Before they had satisfied their desire, 41While their food was in their mouths,31The 42anger of God rose against them And killed 43some of their 44stoutest ones, And 45subdued the choice men of Israel.32In spite of all this they 46still sinned And 47did not believe in His wonderful works.33So He brought 48their days to an end in 49futility And their years in sudden terror.
34When He killed them, then they 50sought Him, And returned and searched 51diligently for God;35And they remembered that God was their 52rock, And the Most High God their 53Redeemer.36But they 54deceived Him with their mouth And 55lied to Him with their tongue.37For their heart was not 56steadfast toward Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant.38But He, being 57compassionate, 5859forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; And often He 6061restrained His anger And did not arouse all His wrath.39Thus 62He remembered that they were but 63flesh, A 6465wind that passes and does not return.
40How often they 66rebelled against Him in the wilderness And 67grieved Him in the 68desert!41Again and again they 6970tempted God, And pained the 71Holy One of Israel.
