Psalms 71
Prayer of an Old Man for Rescue.
11In You, Lord, I have taken refuge; Let me never be put to shame.22In Your righteousness rescue me and save me; 3Extend Your ear to me and help me.34Be to me a rock of 5dwelling to which I may continually come; You have given the 6commandment to save me, For You are 7my rock and my fortress.48Save me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, From the 9grasp of the wrongdoer and the ruthless,5For You are my 10hope; Lord 11God, You are my 12confidence from my youth.6I have 13leaned on You since my birth; You are He who 14took me from my mother’s womb; My 15praise is continually 16of You.
7I have become a 17marvel to many, For You are 18my strong refuge.8My 19mouth is filled with Your praise And with 20Your glory all day long.9Do not cast me away at the 21time of my old age; Do not abandon me when my strength fails.10For my enemies have spoken 22against me; And those who 23watch for my 24life 25have consulted together,11Saying, “26God has abandoned him; Pursue and seize him, for there is 27no one to save him.”
12God, 28do not be far from me; My God, 29hurry to my aid!13May those who are enemies of my soul be 30put to shame and consumed; May they be 31covered with disgrace and dishonor, who 32seek 33to injure me.14But as for me, I will 34wait continually, And will 3536praise You yet more and more.15My 37mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And of 38Your salvation all day long; For I 39do not know the art of writing.16I will come 40with the mighty deeds of the Lord 41God; I will 42make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
17God, You 43have taught me from my youth, And I still 44declare Your wondrous deeds.18And even when I am 45old and gray, God, do not abandon me, Until I 46declare Your 47strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.1948For Your 49righteousness, God, reaches to the 50heavens, You who have 51done great things; God, 52who is like You?20You who have 53shown 54me many troubles and distresses Will 55revive 56me again, And will bring 57me up again 58from the depths of the earth.21May You increase my 59greatness And turn to 60comfort me.
22I will also praise You with 6162a harp, And Your 63truth, my God; I will sing praises to You with the 64lyre, 65Holy One of Israel.23My lips will 66shout for joy when I sing praises to You; And my 67soul, which You have redeemed.24My 68tongue also will tell of Your righteousness all day long; For they are 69put to shame, for they are humiliated who seek 70my harm.
