Psalms 6

Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.

For the music director; with stringed instruments, Or according to a lower octave (Heb Sheminith)upon an eight-string lyre. A Psalm of David.

1Lord, 1do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor discipline me in Your wrath.2Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am 2frail; 3Heal me, Lord, for 4my bones are horrified.3And my 5soul is greatly horrified; But You, Lord--6how long?

4Return, Lord, 7rescue my 8soul; Save me because of Your mercy.5For 9there is no 10mention of You in death; In 11Sheol, who will praise You?

6I am 12weary with my sighing; Every night I make my bed swim, I flood my couch with 13my tears.7My 14eye has wasted away with grief; It has grown old because of all my enemies.

8 15Leave me, all you who practice injustice, For the Lord 16has heard the sound of my weeping.9The Lord 17has heard my pleading, The Lord 18receives my prayer.10All my enemies will 19be put to shame and greatly horrified; They shall 20turn back, they will 21suddenly be put to shame.
