Psalms 139
God’s Omnipresence and Omniscience.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
1Lord, You have 1searched me and known me.2You 2know 3when I sit down and 4when I get up; You 5understand my thought from far away.3You 67scrutinize my 8path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.49Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, Lord, You 10know it all.5You have 11encircled me behind and in front, And 12placed Your hand upon me.6Such 13knowledge is 14too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot comprehend it.
715Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?816If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in 17Sheol, behold, 18You are there.9If I take up the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,10Even there Your hand will 19lead me, And Your right hand will take hold of me.11If I say, “Surely the 20darkness will 21overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,”12Even 22darkness is not dark 23to You, And the night is as bright as the day. 24Darkness and light are alike to You.
13For You 25created my innermost parts; You 26wove me in my mother’s womb.14I will give thanks to You, because 27I am awesomely and wonderfully made; 28Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.15My 2930frame was not hidden from You When I was made in secret, And skillfully formed in the 31depths of the earth;16Your 32eyes have seen my formless substance; And in 33Your book were written All the 34days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.
17How precious also are Your 35thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them!18Were I to count them, they would 36outnumber the sand. When 37I awake, I am still with You.
19If only You would 38put the wicked to death, God; 39Leave me, 40you men of bloodshed.20For they 41speak 42against You wickedly, And Your enemies 4344take Your name in vain.21Do I not 45hate those who hate You, Lord? And do I not 46loathe those who rise up against You?22I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies.
2347Search me, God, and know my heart; 48Put me to the test and know my anxious thoughts;24And see if there is any 4950hurtful way in me, And 51lead me in the 52everlasting way.
