Psalms 102

Prayer of an Afflicted Man for Mercy on Himself and on Zion.

A Prayer of the afflicted when he is weak and Ps 142:2pours out his complaint before the Lord.

11Hear my prayer, Lord! And let my cry for help 2come to You.23Do not hide Your face from me on the day of my distress; 4Incline Your ear to me; On the day when I call 5answer me quickly.3For my days 6have ended in smoke, And my 7bones have been scorched like a hearth.4My heart 8has been struck like 9grass and has 10withered, Indeed, I 11forget to eat my bread.5Because of the 12loudness of my groaning My 13bones 14cling to my flesh.6I resemble a 15pelican of the wilderness; I have become like an owl of the ruins.7I 16lie awake, I have become like a solitary bird on a housetop.

8My enemies 17have taunted me all day long; Those who 1819deride me 20have used my name as a 21curse.9For I have eaten ashes like bread, And 22mixed my drink with weeping1023Because of Your indignation and Your wrath; For You have 24lifted me up and thrown me away.11My days are like a 2526lengthened shadow, And 27I 28wither away like 29grass.

12But You, Lord, 3031remain forever, And Your 3233name remains to all generations.13You will 34arise and have 35compassion on Zion; For 36it is time to be gracious to her, For the 37appointed time has come.14Surely Your servants 38take pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust.1539So the 4041nations will fear the name of the Lord, And 42all the kings of the earth, Your glory.16For the Lord has 43built up Zion; He has 44appeared in His glory.17He has 45turned His attention to the prayer of the 46destitute And has not despised their prayer.

1847This will be 48written for the 49generation to come, 50That 51a people yet to be created 52may praise 53the Lord:19For He 54looked down from His holy height; 55From heaven the Lord looked 56upon the earth,20To hear the 57groaning of the prisoner, To 58set free 59those who were doomed to death,21So that people may 60tell of the name of the Lord in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem,22When 61the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23He has broken my strength in the way; He has 62shortened my days.24I say, “My God, 63do not take me away in the middle of my days, Your 64years are 65throughout all generations.25In time of old You 66founded the earth, And the 67heavens are the work of Your hands.2668Even they will 69perish, but You endure; All of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will pass away.27But You are 7071the same, And Your years will not come to an end.28The 72children of Your servants will continue, And their 7374descendants will be established before You.”
