Psalms 78:25-72

25Man ate the bread of 1angels; He sent them 2food 34in abundance.26He 5made the east wind blow in the sky And by His 6power He directed the south wind.27When He rained meat upon them like the dust, Even 7winged fowl like the sand of the seas,28He let them fall in the midst of 8their camp, All around their dwellings.29So they 9ate and were well filled, And He 10satisfied their longing.3011Yet before they had abandoned their longing, 12While their food was in their mouths,31The 13anger of God rose against them And killed 14some of their 15strongest ones, And 16subdued the choice men of Israel.32In spite of all this they 17still sinned And 18did not believe in His wonderful works.33So He brought 19their days to an end in futility, And their years to an end in sudden terror.

34When He killed them, then they 20sought Him, And they returned and searched 21diligently for God;35And they remembered that God was their 22rock, And the Most High God their 23Redeemer.36But they 24flattered Him with their mouth And 25lied to Him with their tongue.37For their heart was not 26steadfast toward Him, Nor were they faithful with His covenant.38But He, being 27compassionate, 2829forgave their wrongdoing and did not destroy them; And often He 3031restrained His anger And did not stir up all His wrath.39So 32He remembered that they were only 33flesh, A 3435wind that passes and does not return.

40How often they 36rebelled against Him in the wilderness And 37grieved Him in the 38desert!41Again and again they 3940tempted God, And pained the 41Holy One of Israel.42They 42did not remember 43His 44power, The day when He 45redeemed them from the enemy,43When He performed His 46signs in Egypt And His 47marvels in the field of Zoan,44And 48turned their rivers to blood, And their streams, so that they could not drink.45He sent swarms of 49flies among them that devoured them, And 50frogs that destroyed them.46He also gave their crops to the 51grasshopper And the product of their labor to the 52locust.47He 53destroyed their vines with 54hailstones And their sycamore trees with frost.48He also turned their 55cattle over to the hailstones, And their herds to bolts of lightning.49He 56sent His burning anger upon them, Fury and indignation and trouble, A band of 57destroying angels.50He leveled a path for His anger; He did not spare their souls from death, But 58turned their lives over to the plague,51And 59struck all the firstborn in Egypt, The 60first and best of their vigor in the tents of 61Ham.52But He 62led His own people out like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness 63like a flock;53He led them 64safely, so that they did not fear; But 65the sea engulfed their enemies.

54So 66He brought them to His holy 67land, To this 6869hill country 70which His right hand had gained.55He also 71drove out the nations from them And 72apportioned them as an inheritance by measurement, And had the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.56Yet they 7374tempted and 75rebelled against the Most High God And did not keep His testimonies,57But turned back and 76acted treacherously like their fathers; They 77turned aside like a treacherous bow.58For they 78provoked Him with their 79high places And 80moved Him to jealousy with their 81carved images.59When God heard them, He 82was filled with 83wrath And He utterly 84rejected Israel;60So that He 85abandoned the 86dwelling place at Shiloh, The tent 87which He had pitched among people,61And He gave up His 88strength to captivity And His glory 89into the hand of the enemy.62He also 90turned His people over to the sword, And 91was filled with wrath at His inheritance.6392Fire devoured 93His young men, And 94His 95virgins had no wedding songs.6496His 97priests fell by the sword, And 98His 99widows could not weep.

65Then the Lord 100awoke as if from sleep, Like a 101warrior 102overcome by wine.66He 103104drove His adversaries backward; He put on them an everlasting disgrace.67He also 105rejected the tent of Joseph, And did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,68But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount 106Zion, which He loved.69And He 107built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.70He also 108chose His servant David And took him from the sheepfolds;71From 109110the care of the 111ewes 112with nursing lambs He brought him To 113shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel 114His inheritance.72So he shepherded them according to the 115integrity of his heart, And guided them with his skillful hands.
