Colossians 1

Thankfulness for Spiritual Attainments

11Paul, 2an apostle of Christ Jesus 34by the will of God, and 5Timothy 6our brother,

2To the 78saints and faithful brothers and sisters in Christ who are at Colossae: 9Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

310We 11give thanks to God, 12the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 413since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the 14love which you have 15for 16all the 17saints; 5because of the 18hope 19reserved for you in 20heaven, of which you previously 21heard in the word of truth, 22the gospel 6which has come to you, just as 2324in all the world also it is bearing 25fruit and 26increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you 27heard it and 28understood the grace of God in truth; 7just as you learned it from 29Epaphras, our 30beloved fellow bond-servant, who is a faithful servant of Christ on our behalf, 8and he also informed us of your 31love in the Spirit.

9For this reason we also, 32since the day we heard about it, 33have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the 3435knowledge of His will in all spiritual 36wisdom and understanding, 10so that you will 37walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, 3839to please Him in all respects, 40bearing fruit in every good work and 41increasing in the 42knowledge of God; 1143strengthened with all power, according to 44His glorious might, 45for the attaining of all perseverance and 46patience; 47joyously 12giving thanks to 48the Father, who has qualified us 49to share in 50the inheritance of the 51saints in 52light.

The Incomparable Christ

1353For He rescued us from the 5455domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of 5657His beloved Son, 1458in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

1559He is the 60image of the 61invisible God, the 62firstborn of all creation: 16for 6364by Him all things were created, 65both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether 66thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities--67all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17He 6869is before all things, and in Him all things 70hold together. 18He is also the 71head of 72the body, the church; and He is 73the beginning, 74the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19For 75it was 76the Father’s good pleasure for all 77the 78fullness to dwell in Him, 20and through Him to 79reconcile all things to Himself, 80whether things on earth or things in 81heaven, having made 82peace through 83the blood of His cross.

21And although you were 84previously alienated and hostile in attitude, engaged in evil deeds, 22yet He has now 85reconciled you in His 86body of flesh through death, in order to 87present you before Him 88holy and blameless and beyond reproach-- 23if indeed you continue in 89the faith firmly 90established and steadfast, and not shifting from the 91hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed 92in all creation under heaven, 93and of which I, Paul, 94was made a 9596minister.

2497Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh 98I am supplementing what is lacking 99in Christ’s afflictions in behalf of 100His body, which is the church. 25101I 102was made a minister of this church according to the 103commission from God granted to me for your benefit, so that I might 104fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, 26that is, 105the mystery which had been hidden from the past ages and generations, but now has been revealed to His 106saints, 27to whom 107God willed to make known what 108the wealth of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles is, the mystery that is 109Christ in you, the 110hope of glory. 28We proclaim Him, 111admonishing every person and teaching every person 112with all 113wisdom, so that we may 114present every person 115116complete in Christ. 29For this purpose I also 117labor, 118striving 119according to His 120power which 121works mightily within me.
