Psalms 109
Vengeance Invoked upon Adversaries.
For the music director. A Psalm of David.
11God of my praise, 2Do not be silent!2For they have opened a 3wicked and 4deceitful mouth against me; They have spoken 5against me with a 6lying tongue.3They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And have fought against me 7without cause.4In return 8for my love they act as my accusers; But 9I am in prayer.5So they have 1011repaid me evil for good, And 12hatred for my love.
6Appoint a wicked person over him, And may an 1314accuser stand at his right hand.7When he is judged, may he 15come out guilty, And may his 16prayer become sin.8May 17his days be few; May 18another take his office.9May his 19children be fatherless, And his 20wife a widow.10May his 21children wander about and beg; And may they 22seek sustenance 23far from their ruined homes.11May 24the creditor 25seize everything that he has, And may 26strangers plunder the product of his labor.12May there be none to 2728extend kindness to him, Nor 29any to be gracious to his fatherless children.13May his 30descendants be 31eliminated; May their 32name be wiped out in a following generation.
14May 33the guilt of his fathers be remembered 34before the Lord, And do not let the sin of his mother be 35wiped out.15May 36they be before the Lord continually, So that He may 37eliminate their memory from the earth;16Because he did not remember to show mercy, But persecuted the 38afflicted and needy person, And the 39despondent in heart, to 40put them to death.17He also loved cursing, so 41it came to him; And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.18But he 42clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, And it 43entered 44his body like water, And like oil into his bones.19May it be to him as 45a garment with which he covers himself, And as a belt which he constantly 46wears around himself.20May this be the 47reward of my accusers from the Lord, And of those who 48speak evil against my soul.
21But You, 49God, the Lord, deal kindly with me 50for the sake of Your name; Because 51Your mercy is good, rescue me;22For 52I am afflicted and needy, And 53my heart is 54wounded within me.23I am passing 55like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off 56like the locust.24My 57knees 58are weak from 59fasting, And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.25I also have become a 60disgrace to them; When they see me, they 61shake their head.
2662Help me, Lord my God; Save me according to Your mercy.2763And may they 64know that this is Your hand; You, Lord, have done it.2865They will curse, but You bless; When they arise, they will be ashamed, But Your 66servant will be glad.2967May 68my accusers be clothed with dishonor, And 69may they 70cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
30With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the Lord; And 71I will praise Him in the midst of many.31For He stands 72at the right hand of the needy, To save him from those who 73judge his soul.
