2 Peter 1
Growth in Christian Virtue
11Simon Peter, a 2bond-servant and 3apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have received 4a faith of the same 5kind as ours, 6by 7the righteousness of 8our God and Savior, Jesus Christ: 29Grace and peace be multiplied to you in 10the knowledge of God and of Jesus 11our Lord, 3for His 12divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true 13knowledge of Him who 14called us 15by His own glory and 16excellence. 4Through 17these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent 18promises, so that by them you may become 19partakers of the divine nature, having 20escaped the 21corruption that is in 22the world on account of lust. 5Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith 23supply 24moral 25excellence, and in your moral excellence, 26knowledge, 6and in your knowledge, 27self-control, and in your self-control, 28perseverance, and in your perseverance, 29godliness, 7and in your godliness, 30brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they do not make you useless nor 31unproductive in the true 32knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9For the one who lacks these qualities is 33blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his 34purification from his former sins. 10Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more diligent to make certain about His 35calling and 36choice of you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never 37stumble; 11for in this way the entrance into 38the eternal kingdom of our 39Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be 40abundantly 41supplied to you.
12Therefore, 42I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them and have been established in 43the truth which is present with you. 13I consider it 44right, as long as I am in 45this earthly 46dwelling, to 47stir you up by way of reminder, 14knowing that 48the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, 49as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. 15And I will also be diligent that at any time after my 50departure you will be able to call these things to mind.
Eyewitnesses
16For we did not follow cleverly devised 51tales when we made known to you the 52power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were 53eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a 5455declaration as this was made to Him by the 56Majestic Glory: “This is 57My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”-- 18and we ourselves heard this 58declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the 59holy mountain.
19And so we have 60the prophetic word made more 61sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to 62a lamp shining in a dark place, until the 63day dawns and the 64morning star arises 65in your hearts. 20But 66know this first of all, that 67no prophecy of Scripture 68becomes a matter of 69someone’s own interpretation, 21for 70no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men 71moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
