Psalms 5

Prayer for Protection from the Wicked.

For the music director; for Heb Nehilothflute accompaniment. A Psalm of David.

1 1Listen to my words, Lord, Consider my 2sighing.2Listen to 3the sound of my cry for help, 4my King and my God, For to You I pray.3In the morning, Lord, 5You will hear my voice; In the 6morning I will present my 7prayer to You and be on the 8watch.

4For You are not a God 9who takes pleasure in wickedness; 10No evil can dwell with You.5The 11boastful will not 12stand before Your eyes; You 13hate all who do injustice.6You 14destroy those who speak lies; The Lord loathes 15the person of bloodshed and deceit.7But as for me, 16by Your abundant graciousness I will enter Your house, 17At Your holy temple I will 18bow in 19reverence for You.

8Lord, 20lead me 21in Your righteousness 22because of my enemies; Make Your way 23straight before me.9For there is 24nothing 25trustworthy in 26their mouth; Their 27inward part is destruction itself. Their 28throat is an open grave; They 29flatter with their tongue.10Make them pay, God; 30Have them fall by their own schemes! 31Scatter them in the multitude of their wrongdoings, For they are 32rebellious against You.

11But 33rejoice, all who 34take refuge in You, Sing for joy forever! And 35may You 36shelter them, That those who 37love Your name may rejoice in You.12For You 38bless the righteous person, Lord, You 39surround him with favor as with a shield.
