2 Corinthians 1
Introduction
1Paul, 1an apostle of 2Christ Jesus 3by the will of God, and our brother 4Timothy,
To 5the church of God which is at 6Corinth with all the 7saints who are throughout 8Achaia:
29Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
310Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and 11God of all comfort, 4who 12comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in 13any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5For just 14as the sufferings of Christ are 15ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ. 6But if we are afflicted, it is 16for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which is effective in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer; 7and our hope for you is firmly grounded, knowing that 17as you are partners in our sufferings, so also you are in our comfort.
8For 18we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, of our 19affliction which occurred in 2021Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life. 922Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 10who 23rescued us from so great a danger of death, and will rescue us, He 2425on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us, 11if you also join in 26helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by 27many persons in our behalf for the favor granted to us through the prayers of many.
Paul’s Integrity
12For our 28proud confidence is this: the testimony of 29our conscience, that in holiness and 30godly sincerity, 31not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you. 13For we write nothing else to you than what you read and understand, and I hope you will understand 32until the end; 14just as you also partially did understand us, that we are your reason to be proud as you also are ours, on 33the day of our Lord Jesus.
15In this confidence I intended at first to 34come to you, so that you might 35twice receive a 3637blessing; 1638that is, to 39pass 40your way into 41Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and by you to be 42helped on my journey to Judea. 17Therefore, I was not vacillating when I intended to do this, was I? Or what I decide, do I decide 43according to the flesh, so that with me there will be 44yes, yes and no, no at the same time? 18But as 45God is faithful, 46our word to you is not yes and no. 19For 47the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us--by me and 48Silvanus and 49Timothy--was not yes and no, but has been yes 50in Him. 20For 51as many as the promises of God are, 52in Him they are yes; therefore through Him also is 53our Amen to the glory of God through us. 21Now He who 54establishes us with you in Christ and 55anointed us is God, 22who also 56sealed us and 57gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a 58pledge.
23But 59I call God as witness to my soul, that it was 60to spare you that I did not come again to 61Corinth. 24Not that we 62domineer over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy; for in your faith you are 63standing firm.
