Psalms 69:8-28

8I have become 1estranged 2from my brothers, And a stranger to my mother’s sons.9For 3zeal for Your house has consumed me, And 4the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.10When I wept 5in my soul with fasting, It became my 6disgrace.11When I made 7sackcloth my clothing, I became 8a proverb to them.12Those who 9sit in the gate talk about me, And 10songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.

13But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, 11at an acceptable time; God, in the 12greatness of Your mercy, Answer me with 13Your saving truth.14Rescue me from the 14mud and do not let me sink; May I be 15rescued from those who hate me, and from the 16depths of water.15May the 1718flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the 19pit close its mouth on me.

16Answer me, Lord, for 20Your mercy is good; 21According to the greatness of Your compassion, 22turn to me,17And 23do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am 24in distress; answer me quickly.18Come near to my soul and 25redeem it; 26Ransom me because of my enemies!19You know my 27disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor; All my enemies are 28known to You.

20Disgrace has 29broken my heart, and I am so sick. And 30I waited for sympathy, but there was none; And for 31comforters, but I found none.21They also gave me 3233a bitter herb in my food, And for my thirst they 34gave me vinegar to drink.

22May 35their table before them become a snare; And 3637when they are at peace, may it become a trap.23May their 38eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their 39hips shake continually.2440Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.25May their 4142camp be desolated; May there be none living in their tents.26For they have 43persecuted him whom 44You Yourself struck, And they tell of the pain of those whom 45You have 46wounded.27Add 47guilt to their guilt, And 48may they not come into 49Your righteousness.28May they be 50wiped out of the 51book of life, And may they not be 5253recorded with the righteous.
