Context of Psalms 44:12
10You cause us to turn back from the enemy; And those who hate us have taken spoils for themselves. 11You turn us over to be eaten like sheep, And have scattered us among the nations. You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale. 13You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors, Of scoffing and ridicule to those around us. 14You make us a proverb among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.

- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 12Thou sellest thy people for nought - Margin, without riches. Without gain, or advantage; that is, for no price that would be an equivalent. - Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 9-16Verses 9-16 The believer must have times of temptation, affliction, and discouragement; the church must have seasons of persecution. At such times the people of God will be ready to fear that he has cast them off, and that his name and truth will be dishonoured. But they should look above the instruments of their trouble, to God, well knowing that their worst enemies have no power against them, but what is permitted from above.Read the comment
