Matthew 27

Darby Bible

1And when it was morning all the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the eldersG4245 of the peopleG2992 tookG2983 counsel against JesusG2424 so that they might putG2289 him to deathG2289. 2And having boundG1210 him they ledG520 him awayG520, and deliveredG3860 him up to Pontius PilateG4091, the governorG2232. 3Then JudasG2455, who deliveredG3860 him up, seeingG3708 that he had been condemnedG2632, filled with remorse, returned the thirtyG5144 pieces of silverG694 to the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the eldersG4245, 4sayingG3004, I have sinnedG264 [in] having deliveredG3860 up guiltless bloodG129. But they saidG3004, What is that to us? seeG3708 thou [to that]. 5And having castG4496 down the pieces of silverG694 in the templeG3485, he left the place, and wentG565 awayG565 and hanged himself. 6And the chiefG749 priestsG749 tookG2983 the pieces of silverG694 and saidG3004, It isG1510 not lawfulG1832 to castG906 them into the Corban, since it isG1510 [the] priceG5092 of bloodG129. 7And having takenG2983 counsel, they boughtG59 with them the fieldG68 of the potterG2763 for a burying-ground for strangersG3581. 8Wherefore that fieldG68 has been calledG2564 Blood-field unto this dayG4594. 9Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremias the prophetG4396, sayingG3004, And I tookG2983 the thirtyG5144 pieces of silverG694, the priceG5092 of him that was set a priceG5092 on, whom [they who were] of the sonsG5207 of IsraelG2474 had set a priceG5092 on, 10and they gaveG1325 them for the fieldG68 of the potterG2763, according as [the] LordG2962 commanded me. 11But JesusG2424 stoodG2476 before the governorG2232. And the governorG2232 questionedG1905 him, sayingG3004, Art thou the KingG935 of the JewsG2453? And JesusG2424 saidG3004 to him, Thou sayest. 12And when he was accusedG2723 of the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the eldersG4245, he answeredG611 nothing. 13ThenG5119 saysG3004 PilateG4091 to him, Hearest thou not howG4214 manyG4214 things they witness against thee? 14And he answeredG611 him not so much as oneG1520 word, so that the governorG2232 wonderedG2296 exceedinglyG3029. 15NowG1161 at [the] feastG1859 the governorG2232 was accustomedG1486 to releaseG630 oneG1520 prisonerG1198 to the crowdG3793, whom they wouldG2309. 16And they had thenG5119 a notable prisonerG1198, named BarabbasG912. 17They thereforeG3767 being gatheredG4863 togetherG4863, PilateG4091 saidG3004 to them, Whom will ye that I releaseG630 to you, BarabbasG912, or JesusG2424 who is called ChristG5547? 18For he knew that they had deliveredG3860 him up through envyG5355. 19But, as he was sittingG2521 on the judgment-seat, his wifeG1135 sentG649 to him, sayingG3004, Have thou nothingG3367 to do with that righteousG1342 [manG1342]; for I have sufferedG3958 to-day manyG4183 thingsG4183 in a dreamG3677 because of him. 20But the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the eldersG4245 persuadedG3982 the crowdsG3793 that they should beg for BarabbasG912, and destroyG622 JesusG2424. 21And the governorG2232 answeringG611 saidG3004 to them, Which of the twoG1417 will ye that I releaseG630 unto you? And they saidG3004, BarabbasG912. 22PilateG4091 saysG3004 to them, What thenG3767 shall I do with JesusG2424, who is called ChristG5547? They all sayG3004, Let him be crucifiedG4717. 23And the governor saidG3004, What evilG2556 thenG1161 has he done? But they criedG2896 more than ever, sayingG3004, Let him be crucifiedG4717. 24And PilateG4091, seeingG3708 that it availed nothing, but that ratherG3123 a tumult wasG1510 arising, having taken waterG5204, washed his handsG5495 before the crowdG3793, sayingG3004, I amG1510 guiltless of the bloodG129 of this righteous oneG3762: seeG3708 ye [to it]. 25And all the peopleG2992 answeringG611 saidG3004, His bloodG129 [be] on us and on our childrenG5043. 26ThenG5119 he releasedG630 to them BarabbasG912; but JesusG2424, having scourged [him], he deliveredG3860 up that he might be crucifiedG4717. 27ThenG5119 the soldiersG4757 of the governorG2232, having takenG3880 JesusG2424 with [them] to the praetoriumG4232, gatheredG4863 against him the wholeG3650 band, 28and having taken off his garment, putG4060 on him a scarletG2847 cloak; 29and having woven a crownG4735 out of thornsG173, they putG2007 it on his headG2776, and a reedG2563 in his rightG1188 handG1188; and, bowing the knee before him, they mockedG1702 him, sayingG3004, HailG5463, KingG935 of the JewsG2453! 30And having spitG1716 upon him, they tookG2983 the reedG2563 and beatG5180 [him] on his headG2776. 31And whenG3753 they had mockedG1702 him, they took the cloakG2440 off him, and putG1746 his own clothesG2440 on him, and ledG520 him awayG520 to crucifyG4717. 32And as they wentG1831 forthG1831 they foundG2147 a manG444 of CyreneG2956, SimonG4613 by nameG3686; him they compelled to goG1831 [with them] that he might bearG142 his crossG4716. 33And having comeG2064 to a placeG5117 called GolgothaG1115, which means PlaceG5117 of a skullG2898, 34they gaveG1325 to him to drinkG4095 vinegar mingled with gallG5521; and having tastedG1089 [it], he would not drinkG4095. 35And having crucifiedG4717 him, they parted his clothesG2440 amongst [themselves], castingG906 lotsG2819. 36And sittingG2521 downG2521, they keptG5083 guardG5083 over him there. 37And they set up over his headG2776 his accusation writtenG1125: This isG1510 JesusG2424, the KingG935 of the JewsG2453. 38Then are crucifiedG4717 with him twoG1417 robbersG3027, oneG1520 on the rightG1188 handG1188 and oneG1520 on the left. 39But the passers-by reviled him, shaking their headsG2776 40and sayingG3004, Thou that destroyest the templeG3485 and buildest it in threeG5140 daysG2250, saveG4982 thyself. If thou art SonG5207 of 1GodG2316, descendG2597 from the crossG4716. 41[And] in like manner the chiefG749 priestsG749 alsoG2532, mockingG1702, with the scribesG1122 and eldersG4245, saidG3004, 42He savedG4982 othersG243, himself he cannot saveG4982. He isG1510 KingG935 of IsraelG2474: let him descendG2597 nowG3568 from the crossG4716, and we will believeG4100 on him. 43He trustedG3982 upon 2GodG2316; let him save him nowG3568 if he will [have] him. For he saidG3004, I amG1510 SonG5207 of 3GodG2316. 44And the robbersG3027 alsoG2532 who had been crucified with him cast the sameG846 reproaches on him. 45NowG1161 from [the] sixthG1623 hourG5610 there was darknessG4655 over the whole landG1093 until [the] ninth hourG5610; 46but about the ninth hourG5610 JesusG2424 cried out with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, sayingG3004, EliG2241, EliG2241, lama sabachthaniG4518? that isG1510, My 4GodG2316, my 5GodG2316, why hast thou forsakenG1459 me? 47And some of those who stoodG2476 there, when they heardG191 [it], saidG3004, This [manG3778] calls for Elias. 48And immediatelyG2112 oneG1520 of them runningG5143 and getting a spongeG4699, having filledG4130 [it] with vinegar and fixed [it] on a reedG2563, gaveG4222 him to drinkG4222. 49But the restG3062 saidG3004, Let be; let us seeG3708 if Elias comesG2064 to saveG4982 him. 50And JesusG2424, having againG3825 criedG2896 with a loudG3173 voiceG5456, gave up the ghost. 51And lo, the veilG2665 of the templeG3485 was rent in twoG1417 from the topG509 to the bottomG2736, and the earthG1093 was shakenG4579, and the rocksG4073 were rent, 52and the tombsG3419 were openedG455; and manyG4183 bodiesG4983 of the saintsG40 fallen asleepG2837 arose, 53and goingG1831 out of the tombsG3419 after his arising, enteredG1525 into the holyG40 cityG4172 and appeared unto manyG4183. 54But the centurionG1543, and they who wereG1510 with him on guardG5083 over JesusG2424, seeingG3708 the earthquakeG4578 and the thingsG3778 that took placeG1096, fearedG5399 greatlyG4970, sayingG3004, TrulyG230 this [manG3778] wasG1510 SonG5207 of 6GodG2316. 55And there wereG1510 there manyG4183 womenG1135 beholding from afar off, who had followedG190 JesusG2424 from GalileeG1056 ministeringG1247 to him, 56among whom wasG1510 MaryG3137 of Magdala, and MaryG3137 the motherG3384 of JamesG2385 and Joses, and the motherG3384 of the sonsG5207 of ZebedeeG2199. 57NowG1161 when evenG2532 was comeG2064 there cameG2064 a richG4145 manG444 of Arimathaea, his name JosephG2501, who alsoG2532 himself was a disciple to JesusG2424. 58He, going to PilateG4091, begged the bodyG4983 of JesusG2424. ThenG5119 PilateG4091 commandedG2753 the bodyG4983 to be givenG591 up. 59And JosephG2501 having got the bodyG4983, wrapped it in a cleanG2513 linenG4616 clothG4616, 60and laidG5087 it in his newG2537 tombG3419 which he had hewn in the rockG4073; and having rolledG4351 a greatG3173 stoneG3037 to the doorG2374 of the tombG3419, wentG565 awayG565. 61But MaryG3137 of Magdala wasG1510 there, and the otherG243 MaryG3137, sittingG2521 oppositeG561 the sepulchre. 62NowG1161 on the morrow, which isG1510 after the preparationG3904, the chiefG749 priestsG749 and the PhariseesG5330 came togetherG4863 to PilateG4091, 63sayingG3004, SirG2962, we have called to mind that that deceiverG4108 saidG3004 when he was stillG2089 aliveG2198, After threeG5140 daysG2250 I ariseG1453. 64Command thereforeG3767 that the sepulchre beG1510 secured until the thirdG5154 dayG2250, lest his disciplesG3101 should comeG2064 and stealG2813 him awayG575, and sayG3004 to the peopleG2992, He isG1510 risenG1453 from the deadG3498; and the lastG2078 errorG4106 shall beG1510 worse than the firstG4413. 65And PilateG4091 saidG5346 to them, Ye have a watch: goG5217, secureG805 it as well as ye know howG5613. 66And they wentG4198 and secured the sepulchre, having sealedG4972 the stoneG3037, with the watch [besides].
