John Chapter 1
Darby Bible
1In [the] beginning wasG1510 the WordG3056, and the WordG3056 wasG1510 with 1GodG2316, and the WordG3056 wasG1510 2GodG2316. 2He wasG1510 in the beginning with 3GodG2316. 3All thingsG3956 received being through him, and without him not oneG1520 [thingG1520] received being which has received being. 4In him wasG1510 lifeG2222, and the lifeG2222 wasG1510 the lightG5457 of menG444. 5And the lightG5457 appearsG5316 in darknessG4653, and the darknessG4653 apprehended it not. 6There was a manG444 sentG649 from 4GodG2316, his nameG3686 JohnG2491. 7He cameG2064 for witnessG3140, that he might witnessG3140 concerningG4012 the lightG5457, that all might believeG4100 through him. 8He wasG1510 not the lightG5457, but that he might witnessG3140 concerningG4012 the lightG5457. 9The trueG228 lightG5457 wasG1510 that which, comingG2064 into the worldG2889, lightens every manG444. 10He wasG1510 in the worldG2889, and the worldG2889 had [its] beingG1510 through him, and the worldG2889 knewG1097 him not. 11He cameG2064 to his ownG2398, and his ownG2398 receivedG3880 him not; 12but as manyG3745 as receivedG2983 him, to them gaveG1325 he [the] rightG1849 to be childrenG5043 of 5GodG2316, to those that believeG4100 on his nameG3686; 13who have been bornG1080, not of bloodG129, nor of flesh's will, nor of man's will, but of 6GodG2316. 14And the WordG3056 becameG1096 fleshG4561, and dwelt among us (and we have contemplated his gloryG1391, a gloryG1391 as of an only-begotten with a fatherG3962), fullG4134 of graceG5485 and truthG225; 15(JohnG2491 bears witnessG3140 of him, and he has criedG2896, sayingG3004, This wasG1510 he of whom I saidG3004, He that comesG2064 after me isG1510 preferred before me, for he wasG1510 before me;) 16for of his fulness we all have receivedG2983, and graceG5485 upon graceG5485. 17For the lawG3551 was givenG1325 by MosesG3475: graceG5485 and truthG225 subsists through JesusG2424 ChristG5547. 18No oneG3762 has seenG3708 7GodG2316 at any timeG4455; the only-begotten SonG5207, who isG1510 in the bosomG2859 of the FatherG3962, he hath declared [him]. 19And this isG1510 the witnessG3141 of JohnG2491, whenG3753 the JewsG2453 sentG649 from JerusalemG2414 priestsG2409 and Levites that they might askG2065 him, Thou, who art thou? 20And he acknowledged and deniedG720 not, and acknowledged, I amG1510 not the ChristG5547. 21And they askedG2065 him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saysG3004, I amG1510 not. Art thou the prophetG4396? And he answeredG611, No. 22They saidG3004 thereforeG3767 to him, Who art thou? that we may giveG1325 an answerG612 to those who sentG3992 us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23He saidG3004, I [am] [the] voiceG5456 of oneG3588 cryingG994 in the wildernessG2048, Make straight the pathG3598 of [the] LordG2962, as saidG3004 Esaias the prophetG4396. 24And they wereG1510 sentG649 from among the PhariseesG5330. 25And they askedG2065 him and saidG3004 to him, WhyG5101 baptisest thou then, if thou art not the ChristG5547, nor Elias, nor the prophetG4396? 26JohnG2491 answeredG611 them sayingG3004, I baptise with waterG5204. In the midstG3319 of you standsG2476, whom ye do not know, 27he who comesG2064 after me, the thong of whose sandalG5266 I amG1510 not worthyG514 to unloose. 28These thingsG3778 took placeG1096 in BethanyG963, across the JordanG2446, whereG3699 JohnG2491 wasG1510 baptising. 29On the morrow he seesG991 JesusG2424 comingG2064 to him, and saysG3004, BeholdG2396 the LambG286 of 8GodG2316, who takesG142 awayG142 the sinG266 of the worldG2889. 30He it isG1510 of whom I saidG3004, A manG435 comesG2064 after me who takes a placeG1096 before me, because he wasG1510 before me; 31and I knew him not; but that he might be manifestedG5319 to IsraelG2474, therefore have I comeG2064 baptising with waterG5204. 32And JohnG2491 bore witnessG3140, sayingG3004, I beheld the SpiritG4151 descendingG2597 as a doveG4058 from heavenG3772, and it abode upon him. 33And I knew him not; but he who sentG3992 me to baptise with waterG5204, he saidG3004 to me, Upon whom thou shalt seeG3708 the SpiritG4151 descendingG2597 and abidingG3306 on him, he it isG1510 who baptises with [the] HolyG40 SpiritG4151. 34And I have seenG3708 and borne witnessG3140 that this isG1510 the SonG5207 of 9GodG2316. 35AgainG3825, on the morrow, there stoodG2476 JohnG2491 and twoG1417 of his disciplesG3101. 36And, lookingG1689 at JesusG2424 as he walkedG4043, he saysG3004, BeholdG2396 the LambG286 of 10GodG2316. 37And the twoG1417 disciplesG3101 heardG191 him speakingG2980, and followedG190 JesusG2424. 38But JesusG2424 having turnedG4762, and seeingG2300 them followingG190, saysG3004 to them, What seekG2212 ye? And they saidG3004 to him, RabbiG4461 (which, being interpreted, signifies TeacherG1320), whereG4226 abidest thou? 39He saysG3004 to them, ComeG2064 and seeG3708. They went thereforeG3767, and sawG3708 whereG4226 he abode; and they abode with him that dayG2250. It wasG1510 about the tenthG1182 hourG5610. 40AndrewG406, the brotherG80 of SimonG4613 PeterG4074, wasG1510 oneG1520 of the twoG1417 who heardG191 [this] from JohnG2491 and followedG190 him. 41He firstG4413 findsG2147 his ownG2398 brotherG80 SimonG4613, and saysG3004 to him, We have foundG2147 the Messias (which beingG1510 interpreted isG1510 ChristG5547). 42And he ledG71 him to JesusG2424. JesusG2424 lookingG1689 at him saidG3004, Thou art SimonG4613, the sonG5207 of Jonas; thou shalt beG1510 calledG2564 CephasG2786 (which interpreted isG1510 stone). 43On the morrow he would goG1831 forthG1831 into GalileeG1056, and JesusG2424 findsG2147 PhilipG5376, and saysG3004 to him, FollowG190 me. 44And PhilipG5376 wasG1510 from BethsaidaG966, of the cityG4172 of AndrewG406 and PeterG4074. 45PhilipG5376 findsG2147 NathanaelG3482, and saysG3004 to him, We have foundG2147 him of whom MosesG3475 wroteG1125 in the lawG3551, and the prophetsG4396, JesusG2424, the sonG5207 of JosephG2501, who isG1510 from NazarethG3478. 46And NathanaelG3482 saidG3004 to him, Can anything goodG18 comeG2064 out of NazarethG3478? PhilipG5376 saysG3004 to him, ComeG2064 and seeG3708. 47JesusG2424 sawG3708 NathanaelG3482 comingG2064 to him, and saysG3004 of him, BeholdG2396 [one] trulyG230 an IsraeliteG2475, in whom there isG1510 no guile. 48NathanaelG3482 saysG3004 to him, Whence knowest thou me? JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to him, Before that PhilipG5376 called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I sawG3708 thee. 49NathanaelG3482 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to him, RabbiG4461, thou art the SonG5207 of 11GodG2316, thou art the KingG935 of IsraelG2474. 50JesusG2424 answeredG611 and saidG3004 to him, Because I saidG3004 to thee, I sawG3708 thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? Thou shalt seeG3708 greaterG3173 things than these. 51And he saysG3004 to him, Verily, verily, I sayG3004 to you, Henceforth ye shall seeG3708 the heavenG3772 openedG455, and the angelsG32 of 12GodG2316 ascendingG305 and descendingG2597 on the SonG5207 of manG444.
