2 Kings Chapter 1
Darby Bible
1And MoabH4124 rebelledH6586 against IsraelH3478 after the deathH4194 of AhabH256. 2And AhaziahH274 fellH5307 downH5307 through the lattice in his upperH5944 chamberH5944 which was in SamariaH8111, and was sickH2470; and he sentH7971 messengersH4397 and saidH559 to them, GoH7971, inquire of Baal-zebubH1176 the 1godH430 of EkronH6138, whether I shall recover from this disease. 3And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH1696 to ElijahH452 the Tishbite, AriseH6965, goH1980 up to meet the messengersH4397 of the kingH4428 of SamariaH8111, and sayH1696 to them, Is it because there is not a 2GodH430 in IsraelH3478, that ye goH1980 to inquire of Baal-zebubH1176 the 3godH430 of EkronH6138? 4Now thereforeH3651 thusH3541 saith Jehovah: Thou shalt not comeH5927 down from the bedH4296 on which thou art goneH5927 up, but shalt certainly dieH4191. And ElijahH452 departed. 5And the messengersH4397 returnedH7725 to him; and he saidH559 to them, WhyH4100 have ye returnedH7725? 6And they saidH559 unto him, A manH376 cameH5927 up to meet us, and saidH559 to us, GoH5927, returnH7725 to the kingH4428 that sentH7971 you and sayH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Is it because there is not a 4GodH430 in IsraelH3478, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebubH1176 the 5godH430 of EkronH6138? thereforeH3651 thou shalt not comeH5927 down from the bedH4296 on which thou art goneH5927 up, but shalt certainly dieH4191. 7And he saidH1696 to them, What mannerH1697 of manH376 was he that cameH5927 up to meet you, and told you these wordsH1697? 8And they saidH559 to him, He was a manH376 in a hairy [garment], and girt with a girdle of leather about his loinsH4975. And he saidH559, It is ElijahH452 the Tishbite. 9And he sentH7971 to him a captain of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he wentH5927 up to him, and behold, he satH3427 on the topH7218 of the mount. And he spokeH1696 to him: ManH376 of 6GodH430, the kingH4428 saysH1696, ComeH5927 down! 10And ElijahH452 answeredH6030 and saidH1696 to the captain of fiftyH2572, And if I be a manH376 of 7GodH430, let fireH784 comeH3381 down from the heavensH8064 and consumeH398 thee and thy fiftyH2572. And there cameH3381 downH3381 fireH784 from the heavensH8064, and consumedH398 him and his fiftyH2572. 11And again he sentH7971 to him another captain of fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And he spokeH1696 and saidH559 to him, ManH376 of 8GodH430, thusH3541 saysH559 the kingH4428: ComeH3381 down quicklyH4120! 12And ElijahH452 answeredH6030 and saidH1696 to them, If I be a manH376 of 9GodH430, let fireH784 comeH3381 down from the heavensH8064 and consumeH398 thee and thy fiftyH2572. And the fireH784 of 10GodH430 cameH3381 downH3381 from the heavensH8064, and consumedH398 him and his fiftyH2572. 13And again he sentH7971 the captain of a thirdH7992 fiftyH2572 with his fiftyH2572. And the thirdH7992 captain of fiftyH2572 wentH935 up, and cameH935 and fell on his knees before ElijahH452, and besought him and saidH1696 to him, ManH376 of 11GodH430, I pray thee, let my lifeH5315, and the lifeH5315 of these fiftyH2572 thy servantsH5650, be preciousH3365 in thy sight. 14Behold, there cameH3381 downH3381 fireH784 from the heavensH8064, and consumedH398 the twoH8147 captains of the formerH7223 fiftiesH2572 with their fiftiesH2572; but nowH6258, let my lifeH5315 be preciousH3365 in thy sight. 15And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH1696 to ElijahH452, GoH3381 down with him: be not afraidH3372 of him. And he aroseH6965, and wentH3381 downH3381 with him to the kingH4428. 16And he saidH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Forasmuch as thou hast sentH7971 messengersH4397 to inquire of Baal-zebubH1176 the 12godH430 of EkronH6138, is it because there is no 13GodH430 in IsraelH3478 to inquire of his wordH1697? thereforeH3651 thou shalt not comeH5927 down from the bedH4296 on which thou art goneH5927 up, but shalt certainly dieH4191. 17And he diedH4191 according to the wordH1697 of Jehovah that ElijahH452 had spokenH1696. And JehoramH3088 began to reignH4427 in his stead, in the second yearH8141 of JehoramH3088 the sonH1121 of JehoshaphatH3092 kingH4428 of JudahH3063; for he had no sonH1121. 18And the restH3499 of the acts of AhaziahH274, what he did, are they not writtenH3789 in the bookH5612 of the chronicles of the kingsH4428 of IsraelH3478?
