Matthew 12
Darby Bible
1At that timeG2540 JesusG2424 wentG4198 on the sabbathG4521 through the cornfields; and his disciplesG3101 were hungryG3983, and beganG757 to pluck the ears and to eatG2068. 2But the PhariseesG5330, seeingG3708 [it], saidG3004 to him, BeholdG2400, thy disciplesG3101 are doing what is not lawfulG1832 to do on sabbathG4521. 3But he saidG3004 to them, Have ye not readG314 what DavidG1138 did whenG3753 he was hungryG3983, and they that were with him? 4HowG4459 he enteredG1525 into the houseG3624 of 1GodG2316, and ateG2068 the shewbread, which it wasG1510 not lawfulG1832 for him to eatG2068, nor for those with him, but for the priestsG2409 onlyG3441? 5Or have ye not readG314 in the lawG3551 that on the sabbathsG4521 the priestsG2409 in the temple profane the sabbathG4521, and areG1510 blameless? 6But I sayG3004 unto you, that there isG1510 hereG5602 what isG1510 greaterG3173 than the temple. 7But if ye had knownG1097 what isG1510: I will have mercyG1656 and not sacrificeG2378, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. 8For the SonG5207 of manG444 isG1510 LordG2962 of the sabbathG4521. 9And, going away from thence, he cameG2064 into their synagogueG4864. 10And beholdG2400, there was a manG444 having his handG5495 witheredG3584. And they askedG1905 him, sayingG3004, Is it lawfulG1832 to healG2323 on the sabbathG4521? that they might accuseG2723 him. 11But he saidG3004 to them, What manG444 shall there beG1510 of you who has oneG1520 sheepG4263, and if this fallG1706 into a pitG999 on the sabbathG4521, will not lay holdG2902 of it and raiseG1453 [it] up? 12HowG4214 muchG4214 better thenG3767 is a manG444 than a sheepG4263! So that it is lawfulG1832 to do wellG2573 on the sabbathG4521. 13Then he saysG3004 to the manG444, StretchG1614 out thy handG5495. And he stretchedG1614 [it] out, and it was restored soundG5199 as the otherG243. 14But the PhariseesG5330, having goneG1831 out, tookG2983 counsel against him, howG3704 they might destroyG622 him. 15But JesusG2424 knowingG1097 [it], withdrew thence, and greatG4183 crowds followedG190 him; and he healedG2323 them all: 16and charged them strictly that they should not makeG4160 him publicly known: 17that that might be fulfilled which was spoken through Esaias the prophetG4396, sayingG3004, 18BeholdG2400 my servantG3816, whom I have chosen, my belovedG27, in whom my soulG5590 has found its delight. I will putG5087 my SpiritG4151 upon him, and he shall shew forth judgmentG2920 to the nationsG1484. 19He shall not strive or cryG5456 out, nor shall any oneG5100 hearG191 his voiceG5456 in the streetsG4116; 20a bruised reedG2563 shall he not breakG2608, and smoking flax shall he not quenchG4570, until he bring forth judgmentG2920 unto victoryG3534; 21and on his nameG3686 shall [the] nationsG1484 hopeG1679. 22Then was broughtG4374 to him oneG3588 possessed by a demon, blindG5185 and dumb, and he healedG2323 him, so that the dumb [manG5185] spake and sawG991. 23And all the crowdsG3793 wereG1510 amazed and saidG3004, IsG1510 this [manG3778] the SonG5207 of DavidG1138? 24But the PhariseesG5330, having heardG191 [it], saidG3004, This [manG3778] does not castG1544 out demonsG1140, but by Beelzebub, princeG758 of demonsG1140. 25But he, knowing their thoughtsG1761, saidG3004 to them, Every kingdomG932 divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every cityG4172 or houseG3614 divided against itself will not subsist. 26And if SatanG4567 casts out SatanG4567, he is divided against himself; howG4459 then shall his kingdomG932 subsist? 27And if I castG1544 out demonsG1140 by Beelzebub, your sonsG5207, by whom do they castG1544 [them] out? For this reason they shall beG1510 your judgesG2923. 28But if I by [the] SpiritG4151 of 2GodG2316 castG1544 out demonsG1140, thenG1161 indeed the kingdomG932 of 3GodG2316 is comeG5348 upon you. 29Or howG4459 can any oneG5100 enterG1525 into the houseG3614 of the strongG2478 [man] and plunderG1283 his goodsG4632, unless firstG4413 he bindG1210 the strongG2478 [man]? and then he will plunderG1283 his houseG3614. 30He that isG1510 not with me isG1510 against me, and he that gathersG4863 not with me scattersG4650. 31For this reason I sayG3004 unto you, Every sinG266 and injurious speakingG3004 shall be forgivenG863 to menG444, but speakingG3004 injuriously of the SpiritG4151 shall not be forgivenG863 to menG444. 32And whosoever shall have spoken a wordG3056 against the SonG5207 of manG444, it shall be forgivenG863 him; but whosoever shall speakG3004 against the HolyG40 SpiritG4151, it shall not be forgivenG863 him, neither in this ageG165 nor in the coming [oneG3739]. 33Either makeG4160 the treeG1186 goodG2570, and its fruitG2590 goodG2570; or makeG4160 the treeG1186 corrupt, and its fruitG2590 corrupt. For from the fruitG2590 the treeG1186 is knownG1097. 34OffspringG1081 of vipersG2191! howG4459 can ye speakG2980 goodG18 thingsG18, beingG1510 wickedG4190? For of the abundance of the heartG2588 the mouthG4750 speaksG2980. 35The goodG18 manG444 out of the goodG18 treasureG2344 brings forth goodG18 thingsG18; and the wickedG4190 manG444 out of the wickedG4190 treasureG2344 brings forth wickedG4190 thingsG18. 36But I sayG3004 unto you, that every idleG692 wordG3056 which menG444 shall sayG3004, they shall renderG591 an accountG3056 of it in judgment-day: 37for by thy wordsG3056 thou shalt be justifiedG1344, and by thy wordsG3056 thou shalt be condemned. 38Then answeredG611 him some of the scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330, sayingG3004, TeacherG1320, we desireG2309 to seeG3708 a signG4592 from thee. 39But he, answeringG611, saidG3004 to them, A wickedG4190 and adulterousG3428 generationG1074 seeksG1934 after a signG4592, and a signG4592 shall not be givenG1325 to it save the signG4592 of Jonas the prophetG4396. 40For evenG2532 as Jonas wasG1510 in the bellyG2836 of the great fish threeG5140 daysG2250 and threeG5140 nightsG3571, thusG3779 shall the SonG5207 of manG444 beG1510 in the heartG2588 of the earthG1093 threeG5140 daysG2250 and threeG5140 nightsG3571. 41NinevitesG3536 shall standG450 up in the judgmentG2920 with this generationG1074, and shall condemnG2632 it: for they repentedG3340 at the preachingG2782 of Jonas; and beholdG2400, moreG4183 than Jonas [is] hereG5602. 42A queenG938 of [the] southG3558 shall riseG1453 up in the judgmentG2920 with this generationG1074, and shall condemnG2632 it; for she cameG2064 from the endsG4009 of the earthG1093 to hearG191 the wisdomG4678 of SolomonG4672; and beholdG2400, moreG4183 than SolomonG4672 [is] hereG5602. 43But whenG3752 the uncleanG169 spiritG4151 has goneG1831 out of the manG444, he goesG1831 through dry placesG5117, seekingG2212 restG372, and does not findG2147 [it]. 44Then he saysG3004, I will returnG1994 to my houseG3624 whence I cameG2064 out; and having comeG2064, he findsG2147 [it] unoccupied, sweptG4563, and adornedG2885. 45Then he goesG4198 and takesG3880 with himself sevenG2033 otherG2087 spiritsG4151 worse than himself, and enteringG1525 in, they dwellG2730 there; and the lastG2078 condition of that manG444 becomesG1096 worse than the firstG4413. ThusG3779 shall it beG1510 to this wickedG4190 generationG1074 alsoG2532. 46But while he was yet speakingG2980 to the crowdsG3793, beholdG2400, his motherG3384 and his brethren stoodG2476 without, seekingG2212 to speakG2980 to him. 47Then oneG5100 saidG3004 unto him, BeholdG2400, thy motherG3384 and thy brethren are standingG2476 without, seekingG2212 to speakG2980 to thee. 48But he answeringG611 saidG3004 to him that spokeG3004 to him, Who isG1510 my motherG3384, and who areG1510 my brethren? 49And, stretchingG1614 out his handG5495 to his disciplesG3101, he saidG3004, BeholdG2400 my motherG3384 and my brethren; 50for whosoever shall do the will of my FatherG3962 who isG1510 in [the] heavensG3772, he isG1510 my brotherG80, and sisterG79, and motherG3384.
