Nahum Chapter 1

Darby Bible

1The burdenH4853 of NinevehH5210. The bookH5612 of the visionH2377 of Nahum the Elkoshite. 2A jealousH7072 and avengingH5358 1GodH410 is Jehovah: an avengerH5358 is Jehovah, and full of fury: Jehovah taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth [wrathH2534] for his enemiesH341. 3Jehovah is slow to angerH639, and greatH1419 in powerH3581, and doth not at all clear [the guilty]: Jehovah, — his wayH1870 is in the whirlwind and in the stormH8183, and the cloudsH6051 are the dustH80 of his feetH7272. 4He rebuketh the seaH3220, and maketh it dryH3001, and drieth up all the riversH5104: BashanH1316 languisheth, and CarmelH3760, and the flower of LebanonH3844 languisheth. 5The mountainsH2022 quakeH7493 before him, and the hillsH1389 meltH4127, and the earthH776 is upheaved at his presenceH6440, and the worldH8398, and all that dwellH3427 therein. 6Who shall standH5975 before his indignationH2195? and who shall abide in the fierceness of his angerH639? His fury is pouredH5413 out like fireH784, and the rocksH6697 are brokenH5422 asunder by him. 7Jehovah is goodH2896, a strongholdH4581 in the dayH3117 of troubleH6869; and he knoweth them that trust in him. 8But with an overrunning floodH7858 he will makeH6213 a full end of the placeH4725 thereof, and darknessH2822 shall pursueH7291 his enemiesH341. 9What do ye imagine against Jehovah? He will makeH6213 a full end: troubleH6869 shall not riseH6965 up the second timeH6471. 10Though they be tangled together [as] thorns, and be as drenched from their drinkH5435, they shall be devouredH398 as dryH3002 stubbleH7179, completely. 11Out of thee is goneH3318 forthH3318 oneH4480 that imagineth evilH7451 against Jehovah, a wickedH7451 counsellor. 12ThusH3541 saith Jehovah: Though they be completeH8003 in number, and manyH7227 as they be, even soH3651 shall they be cutH1494 down, and he shall passH5674 away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflictH6031 thee no more. 13And nowH6258 will I breakH7665 his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds asunder. 14And Jehovah hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy nameH8034 be sownH2232: out of the houseH1004 of thy 2godH430 will I cutH3772 off the graven imageH6459, and the molten imageH6459: I will prepare thy graveH6913; for thou art vile. 15Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth glad tidings, that publisheth peace! Celebrate thy feasts, Judah, perform thy vows: for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
