Lamentations Chapter 1
Darby Bible
1HowH349 doth the cityH5892 sitH3427 solitary [that] wasH1961 full of peopleH5971! She that wasH1961 greatH7227 among the nationsH1471 isH1961 becomeH1961 as a widowH490; the princess among the provincesH4082 isH1961 becomeH1961 tributary! 2She weepeth sore in the nightH3915, and her tearsH1832 are on her cheeksH3895; among all her loversH157 she hath no comforterH5162; all her friendsH7453 have dealtH898 treacherouslyH898 with her, they are becomeH1961 her enemiesH341. 3JudahH3063 is goneH1540 into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitudeH5656; she dwelleth among the nationsH1471, she findeth no restH4494: all her pursuersH7291 have overtakenH5381 her within the straits. 4The waysH1870 of ZionH6726 do mournH57, because none comeH935 to the solemn assembly: all her gatesH8179 are desolateH8074; her priestsH3548 sigh, her virginsH1330 are in griefH3013; and as for her, she is in bitternessH4751. 5Her adversaries have becomeH1961 the headH7218, her enemiesH341 prosper; for Jehovah hath afflicted her for the multitudeH7230 of her transgressionsH6588: her childrenH5768 are goneH1980 into captivityH7628 before the adversary. 6And from the daughterH1323 of Zion all her splendour is departed: her princesH8269 are becomeH1961 like harts that findH4672 no pastureH4829; and they are goneH3318 without strengthH3581 before the pursuerH7291. 7In the daysH3117 of her affliction and of her wanderings, since her peopleH5971 fellH5307 into the handH3027 of an adversary, and none did helpH5826 her, JerusalemH3389 remembereth all her precious things which she had in the daysH3117 of old: the adversaries have seenH7200 her, they mock at her ruin. 8JerusalemH3389 hath grievously sinnedH2398; thereforeH3651 is she removed as an impurity: all that honoured her despise her because they have seenH7200 her nakednessH6172; and she sigheth, and turneth backwardH268. 9Her impurity was in her skirtsH7757, she rememberedH2142 not her latterH319 endH319; and she cameH3381 downH3381 wonderfully: she hath no comforterH5162. Jehovah, behold my affliction; for the enemyH341 hath magnifiedH1431 himself. 10The adversary hath spreadH6566 out his handH3027 upon all her preciousH4261 things; for she hath seenH7200 the nationsH1471 enter into her sanctuaryH4720, concerning whom thou didst commandH6680 that they should not enter into thy congregation. 11All her peopleH5971 sigh, they seekH1245 breadH3899; they have givenH5414 their precious things for foodH3899 to revive [their] soulH5315. SeeH7200, Jehovah, and considerH7200, for I amH1961 becomeH1961 vile. 12Is it nothing to you, all ye that passH5674 by? Behold, and seeH7200 if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is done unto me, whom Jehovah hath afflicted in the dayH3117 of his fierce angerH639. 13From on highH4791 hath he sentH7971 fireH784 into my bonesH6106, and it prevaileth against them; he hath spreadH6566 a netH7568 for my feetH7272; he hath turnedH7725 me backH7725; he hath madeH5414 me desolateH8076 [and] faintH1739 all the dayH3117. 14The yokeH5923 of my transgressionsH6588 is bound by his handH3027: they are wreathed, they are comeH5927 up upon my neckH6677; he hath madeH5414 my strengthH3581 to fail; the LordH136 hath delivered me into handsH3027 out of which I am not ableH3201 to riseH6965 up. 15The LordH136 hath cast down all my mightyH47 menH970 in the midstH7130 of me; he hath calledH7121 an assembly against me to crush my youngH970 menH970; the LordH136 hath troddenH1869 as a winepress the virginH1330 daughterH1323 of JudahH3063. 16For these thingsH428 I weepH1058; mine eyeH5869, mine eyeH5869 runneth downH3381 with waterH4325: for the comforterH5162 that should revive my soulH5315 is farH7368 from me; my children are desolateH8074, for the enemyH341 hath prevailedH1396. 17ZionH6726 spreadeth forth her handsH3027; there is none to comfortH5162 her; Jehovah hath commandedH6680 concerning JacobH3290, [that] his adversaries [should beH1961] roundH5439 about him; JerusalemH3389 is as an impurityH5079 among them. 18Jehovah is righteousH6662; for I have rebelledH4784 against his commandment. HearH8085, I pray you, all ye peoplesH5971, and behold my sorrow. My virginsH1330 and my youngH970 menH970 are goneH1980 into captivityH7628. 19I calledH7121 for my loversH157, they have deceived me; my priestsH3548 and mine eldersH2205 have expired in the cityH5892, while they soughtH1245 them foodH400 to revive their soulH5315. 20SeeH7200, Jehovah, for I am in distressH6862, my bowelsH4578 are troubled; my heartH3820 is turnedH2015 within me, for I have grievously rebelledH4784: without, the swordH2719 hath bereavedH7921 [me], within, it is as deathH4194. 21They have heardH8085 that I sigh: I have no comforterH5162: all mine enemiesH341 have heardH8085 of my calamityH7451; they are glad that thou hast done it. Thou wilt bringH935 the dayH3117 that thou hast calledH7121, and they shall beH1961 like unto me. 22Let all their wickednessH7451 comeH935 before thee; and do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressionsH6588: for my sighs are manyH7227, and my heartH3820 is faintH1742.
